Super Human exhibition at Melbourne’s RMIT Gallery

Melbourne illustrator Rik Lee creates images as if they were a delicate easter egg. Faces, animals, bikes — they’re all rendered with the same light touch, with some interesting juxtapositions with the pastel smeared throughout, like make-up after a night on the town.
Jennifer Tyer’s Fight exhibition
An exhibition of artist Jennifer Tyer’s latest work has just kicked off at Melbourne’s Helen Gory Galerie. Titled ‘Fight’, the works were inspired by the idea that, in tournament fights, where opponents of the same level compete, the person who wins will generally be the one with the stronger spirit. In doing so, she introduces a very human element to the militant contests, capturing the unwavering concentration in the rivals’ faces, their clear focus on winning, as well as the spectacle of the matches. The exhibition runs until February 21. Read more

Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. We asked them about their favourite music and they started with The Smiths song, Ask [listen below] ‘I saw them playing live on Italian TV. This one in Kemi, northern Finland, is the world’s largest snow castle, standing seventeen metres high and with walls that are 1,100 metres long. It has restaurants, an art gallery, a hotel and a chapel. In fact, since opening in the early 1990s, it’s been quite a hit for tourists to get married at the snow chapel. FFFFOUND! is a fun website that allows you to bookmark your favorite images from the Internet and share them with fellow users, sort of like a del.icio.us specifically for pictures. The site is still in private beta and not currently supported on Mac, but as its collection of images expands, it’s likely to become much more widely available.

Nine months ago Sydney couple Matt Cribb and Bree Carter decided they’d take their relationship to the next level. They started making beats.
