I have known Hayden for almost twenty years. He has always released quality music and that is why he can wait four years between releases and his fans are still there. His latest album — In Field & Town — went straight into heavy rotation in our home and I think will extend his fan base further than even he might like.

We’re big fans of French duo Cocoon, so we spoke to frontman Marc Daumail to prove it. Ahead of their upcoming tour of Australia in November, we asked him how vibrant the French music scene is right now: ‘It’s such a relief to be considered like a real band singing in English in a country like France, which is very conservative about its music traditions. We know Moriarty and The Do. They are nice. We all worked a lot to make this scene exist’. Henri Cartier-Bresson’s The Aperture History of Photography is an excellent collection of photos taken between 1934 and 1968 with an emotional range that few will ever attain. They are portraits of humanity that should be witnessed. As Cartier-Bresson says: ‘As far as I’m concerned, taking photographs is a means of understanding which cannot be separated from other means of visual expression. It is a way of shouting, of freeing oneself, not of proving or asserting one’s own originality. It is a way of life’. Read more
The Kevin Ayers record Joy of a Toy from 1969 was released by Harvest Records and sits somewhere between Nick Drake and The Byrds. A record slightly ahead of its time, it was filled with enough interesting and clever arrangements and instrumentation to never bore. Girl on a Swing is my favorite tune for the tremolo guitar.
The German electro outfit Burger/Ink released the extremely chilled out album of late-night, early morning dancefloor or sofa-ready beats called Las Vegas on Matador. The Nobody Was Thirsty project is a collaboration between Ivan Kane’s Café W as charity — water — and Australia’s own denim label, Nobody. The campaign aims to sell a signature, not-for-profit T-shirt, with all donations helping to fund the world’s water crisis. The sale of one T-shirt alone can provide two people in Africa with clean drinking water for twenty years, something the majority of us take for granted.

Israeli computer scientists recently created a computer program that changes photographs of people’s faces into more attractive images based on an algorithm that determines ideal distances between lips and chins, foreheads and eyes, and distances between eyes.

Now, I remember seeing a Hayden film clip on TV about 12 years ago where he sat on a bed in a bedroom while a mosh pit was jumping right in front of him below.
He was singing about a girl, who ended up crowd surfing towards him, climbing into the room and sitting next to him on the bed for a while.
Then leaps back into the mosh.
It was a stunning song, and I have never been able to find anyone that knows what it was called or what LP it is from! Can you help?
