Charlie White
Charlie White, best known for his horrifying, prosthetics-heavy digital photos of monsters and aliens invading cheerful modern spaces, has taken a political turn in his work of late, blending classical imagery, current events, folklore, and straight-up portraiture in his Everything Is American series. Gone are the sci-fi references of the Understanding Joshua (which featured a horrifying muppet-like protagonist) and In A Matter Of Days series. Instead, White is toning down the digitized and visceral horror in favor of a subtler, but every bit as disturbing style.

Micah P. Hinson is like every rustic, broken down, and pieced back together country great that’s ever been. Only hipper and slightly less sombre. This track, Diggin’ A Grave, is a button-up hoe down with a classic pop chorus and a jangly banjo accompaniment. Yup, some folk have all the fun.

The Los Angeles musician, Ariana Delawari — aka Lion of Panjshir — is half Afghan and half Sicilian and makes wonderfully enlightened weirdo folk rock. I hope she takes that as a compliment! Her music is delicate and powerful and she is a pure artist. Everything she does has that magic light in it. She made her new album partially in Afghanistan, and many of the lyrics deal with the continued oppression of people’s liberties by the Taliban.

Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.

My friend Josh Van Horne, a local Baltimore artist, did this amazing mural in our neighborhood that depicts the history of this warehouse-laden area.
