Beck sketchel
Our good friends over at Jeremyville recently unveiled a new sketchel in their ongoing series of baggage art — where illustration meets fashion meets art meets a warm shoulder to carry it on. The unisex ‘Beck vs Gauckler vs sketchel’ features the creative input of Paris-based artist Genevieve Gauckler and is big enough to fit a 15-inch ibook laptop in. You can buy them through the newly launched Lost At E Minor online store.

UK-based charity, Bottletop, whom we interviewed a while back, have a quirky line of products for sale on their website, including their flagship ring-pull bags. The bags are made by a community group in Salvador, Brazil, and then distributed throughout the world by Bottletop and their partner in the project, Fenchurch. The proceeds from this are then channelled back into health-related educational programmes in the community — one of many blighted by AIDS in Latin America.

Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. We asked them about their favourite music and they started with The Smiths song, Ask [listen below] ‘I saw them playing live on Italian TV. Not much more needs to be said about this. Ricky Gervais, the funniest man in
Milwaukee’s Neon Hunk make spastic, synth-and-drum madness that is likely to trigger seizures in the uninitiated. Their psychotic, candy-colored aesthetic — complete with terrifying masks and stuffed animals — gives no quarter to the faint of heart, but for those whose retinas and ear canals are sufficiently fortified with scar tissue, the duo’s glitched-out dance attack should provide ample cause to bounce around. Scanners’ new single Salvation
I love this track by London based rock group, Scanners, which is off their latest album, Submarine. Having toured with acts such as The Horrors, The Wedding Present, The Charlatans, Electric Six, and Juliette & The Licks, Scanners could well blow up in 2010. Figuratively speaking, not literally. No, that wouldn’t be fun.
I live the upbeat, feel good tempo of the new single — A Hundred Hearts — from Philly group, The Swimmers. Off their latest album, People Are Soft, this song is a strangely fitting anthem for the blustery day outside.
Forget battery powered vehicles. Cars made from ice are the future of transportation: no pollution, no honking horns, no painful rap music blasting out of souped up stereos. And if they melt, they melt. You just swim the rest of the way down the slipstream.
With the recession still biting, it may be time to whip out the glue and the cardboard and make your next pair of cool kicks. Don’t know how they’d manage in the rain though? Read more
