Dopplr
We dig travel, and we certainly talk about it enough. Unfortunately, it’s a matter of more talking than doing. But next time we’re ready for some airtime, we might see if we can line up the odd rendezvous using Dopplr. It’s pretty nifty — you add your itinerary and share it with your fellow globetrotters, and Dopplr lets you know when you’ll be in the same place as your friends. It’s undoubtedly simpler than tracking those ‘two weeks in Havana, a week in Buenos Aires, then over to Santiago’ email threads. And the tool is very nicely designed.
The issue for most of us, though, is locking down an itinerary. Does anyone typically know where they’ll be any more than a couple of weeks — or even days — in advance? We’re flat out knowing what we’re doing or where we’ll be the next day. So tell us, what’s your preferred travel style — planned or unplanned?

After weeks of packing Australia’s crate with the best of Aussie nightlife, our crate was farewelled in lavish style at the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange send-off party in Sydney last week. The Hurley denim reps were rattled; they’d endured a long drive from Utah through what they described as the worst weather they’d ever experienced. Joking around with them before the show I realised how shaken up these guys actually were; hands were still shaking and their laughter was racked by nerves. Read more
NOW: an Analog Moving Picture Project
There’s a great story behind this prog-surf film. Riley Blakeway was an aspiring surf film-maker with incredible talent and a handfull of small film projects to his name. Chippa Wilson was a relatively unknown but amazing aerial surfer without the opportunity to show the world what he could do. In 2009, they won STAB magazine’s Little Weeds competition, respectively taking out the film-maker and surfer prizes. Read more

I’m not usually into super-slick illustration, but Rory Kurtz’s stuff is really amazing. He’s able to render cinematic depth-of-field contrasts as well as exaggerated angles and foreshortening. It’s not surprising that he’s done a lot of work based on current films. Read more

Whenever I begin to take life too seriously, I head over to Indexed for a little humor treat. Never have math, formulas and graphs been so clever and witty. The creator of the site started it as a way to make fun of some things, sense of others. Somehow her little formula worked. She is now listed in TIME Magazine’s Top Blogs of 2008. And now Jessica Hagy is a published author. Enjoy exploring the inner-workings of her mind. It is simply delightful.
I usually steer clear of anything smelling of disco-breaks: the thought just bores me. But with Padded Cell’s new release, Night Must Fall, I see a bit of a U-turn on the horizon. There’s something really interesting going on here: it’s a cocktail of 80′s swank laced with woozy narcotic undertones and flecked with snappy drum loops: weird, undeniably dark and ominous, but nonetheless pretty damn satisfying. Love it or loathe it, you’ve got to admit that the ruffled blouses and strict pencil skirts on television series Gossip Girl give you a guilt-free reason to watch. 25-year-old former model Abigail Lorick was approached to ghost design the Eleanor Waldorf Collection by using her budding real life label Loricklady. The press surrounding the show has boosted her profile and her new collection featuring all the Upper East Side trimmings is greatly anticipated.
