Says James Ellerker on his Circus Company series: ‘It took me ages to get permission to take photographs behind the scenes of this Circus company, but after a few months they gave in. My interest was in the people who worked in the circus and their nomadic lifestyle. I had organised to spend a couple of days with the circus when they arrived in London. During this time I wanted to get to know the individuals who spent six months of their lives on the road and gain their trust. It also gave me time to organise what angle I wanted to approach this project from. These guys are natural entertainers and I didn’t want them to fall into character when I was with them with a camera. All of the individuals I met were fascinating and they all had their own story. It was Norman the Ringmaster, a veteran professional, that really got my attention. He has such a great personality and exudes charisma. I decided to shoot the image from this angle so that I would catch him at his most natural in his working environment’.

New Banksy artwork angers the Catholic Church
Banksy has struck again, this time offending the Catholic Church with a bold artwork that critiques their stance on ongoing child abuse scandals. Banksy has taken a replica of a bust of an eighteenth century member of the Catholic hierarchy and added multi-coloured tiles to the face — pixelating it — as a comment on what he considers to be the Church’s cover-up. ‘I’m never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one’, Banksy noted. Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design
Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

It’s often assumed that great artists were born that way, which really isn’t true usually. Buddy Nestor, for instance, didn’t really start painting until the birth of his son in 1997. Now he’s a prolific painter, creating really demented portraits of women. I hope that’s not an indication of how he feels about his son. Read more

Says Van She bassist and vocalist Matt Van Schie about the Bush Tetras track — Too Many Creeps — from 1982: ‘I LOOOVE this tune. It opens with a perfect snare roll, and then the counter bass and guitar rhythms make it so cool. The lyrics are even more valid today. They’re one of my favourite bands of all time, and so many people try to do what they did for real. What a time! I wish I was born back then in New York, hanging out with these kids. Ahhhh!!’
Pickle Hut was designed by architect Dan Hoffman and The Cranbrook Architectural Office. It is a place where the children of Brookside School can play, recite stories and dream. Set up for children to enter into this mysterious U-Shape building, the Pickle Hut offers up a little hub of sanctuary in order to let their imaginations fly. If only I had such a magical edifice to call my own and run to when head nun, Sister Mary, was on one of her many Catholic tirades. Eek! [photo by Paul Hitz]
His name is Marshall Ace Drummond, which makes his initials MAD. At just over 8 months old, you don’t need to be clucky to appreciate his outfits: from Baby Gap to Cheap Monday, and sometimes not much more than a cheeky grin. This bub oozes charisma and his clothes suit him to a tee (pun intended).

Heavily influenced by music and film, the design team at Conquer Gear showcases their tees not as clothes, but indubitably as limited edition art pieces. That said, I wonder what film or music piece inspired Mr. Owl picture t shirt [below]? Led Zeppelin came to mind, but then so did Joni Mitchell!. Haven’t seen some really amazing photos for a while. For me, this is more than just stunning – i feel like I can write a whole book just looking at a picture like this.
