Jylian Gustlin
Formerly a graphics programmer for Apple Computers, Californian artist Jylian Gustlin applies her appreciation for technology throughout her artwork, which often ‘conveys the same complex layered effects possible in computer programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator’. She ‘experiments with a variety of materials to discover their effects, working with two-part epoxy resin, oil and acrylic paints, charcoal, wax, gold leaf, pastel and graphite on board’. Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV
The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

I don’t really have a preoccupation with death, but for some reason I am endlessly compelled by the image of a skull. That said, most artistic renderings of skulls can be quite cliched. Illustrator Geordan Moore is the first person in a while who I’ve seen draw a skull in a way that I’ve never seen before.
Amanda Rynda brings her clients’ fantasies to life with her wedding photography. If you’re fed up with the dreamy, sugary, corny pictures of smiley couples holding hands at the park, how about throwing a zombie into the mix?

Don’t be afraid of the word retro. It has haunted us all from time to time, but one group that has embraced it with open arms is UK duo, La Roux. Their music is synth pop in the vein of Calvin Harris, Human League, The Eurythmics, and The Knife. There are quite a few of these young and ambitious pop starlets on the scene including Goldielocks. But La Roux takes the cake. Literally. I’m obsessed with their song In For the Kill and have a feeling summer will take it and make it a hit.
On this Virgin Mary HaloTech watch, the dial is a modern version of the nineteenth century art form of lithophanes, carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D. The watch features a light-up dial, LED light, and afterglo effect.
