Onesidezero
Onesidezero is a designer and illustrator from Leicester, UK. Of his work he says: ‘I love to include flowing vibrant colours, bold images and strange creatures in my work, I usually sketch my initial concepts whilst listening to music, which helps me think. An early sketch usually starts off with a few basic shapes, I’ll sometimes re-draw an idea a number of times changing even the smallest details before I’m happy; the rest is done in Photoshop and Illustrator’. ‘I mostly draw at night, because it gives me time to reflect on things that have happened that day and just seems more relaxed. Influences come from just about everything — music, fashion, a shadow, a cloud formation … anything interesting really but my imagination alters everything I remember anyway. Some things become merged. Inspiration from other artists is hard to hit upon as I’m constantly discovering new talent through Inkthis. Some artists have a long-lasting effect though, such as Lucinda Rogers and James Jean, whose work really captures emotions I can connect with’.

Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Philly indie rock group Dr Dog recently compiled a crackling Secret Playlist for us which included props for songs by Cass McCombs, Thunderclap Newman, and the new time rag star, A.A Bundy, about whose track, Vice Rag, keyboardist Zach Miller wrote: ‘Good enough to be a classic old timey melody, except with more contemporary lyrical vices added. Says Van She bassist and vocalist Matt Van Schie about the Bush Tetras track — Too Many Creeps — from 1982: ‘I LOOOVE this tune. It opens with a perfect snare roll, and then the counter bass and guitar rhythms make it so cool. The lyrics are even more valid today. They’re one of my favourite bands of all time, and so many people try to do what they did for real. What a time! I wish I was born back then in New York, hanging out with these kids. Ahhhh!!’
A broken snare drum rolling gently over a scratchy acoustic guitar; a deep lyrical catharsis smothering a melody which is predictable but endearing. Your Rocky Spine by Great Lake Swimmers is a magical song; all wrapped up in three and half minutes of lustful introspection.
