David Capra’s Nativity
Australian artist David Capra has an exhibition kicking off at Sydney’s Mori Gallery on December 5. Titled Nativity, the show will feature ‘a garden of pom poms, rainbow paper towers, lakes of melted wax, caves of crinkled-up paper and Barbie dolls dressed as Catholic saints’. It was inspired by a recent year long excursion Capra took through Europe: ‘I came across many nativity scenes along the way and it was only a matter of time before I made one of my own’. Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. We asked them about their favourite music and they started with The Smiths song, Ask [listen below] ‘I saw them playing live on Italian TV. Matt Stuart’s photography makes big city life look so much more ironic and interesting than it is. It would take the average Joe a lifetime to capture the moments that reel off his website. He’d be the ideal wedding photographer for a marriage to oneself.
Herzog and de Meuron, the Swiss architects, have led the way with this re-use of the existing building fabric of CaixaForum in Madrid. Rather than being slavish to the existing openings, the building has been cut away for a contemporary practicality. We think this is an example of heritage not getting in the way of progress. Check out a similar concept of a previous post re-using the city fabric, where we were dreaming of such thing.
