No, Dorothy would have never come across these shoes in Oz, but she would have at Odin, a smallish men’s store in New York’s East Village. Who said men’s fashion was boring? These are Yohji Yamamoto’s Honja Hi sneakers, which are a part of his Y-3 line, a collaboration with Addidas. This wasn’t the result of any sort of emotional buying, nor were they purchased out of necessity either. I saw them, I felt the blood rush to my face, and so I bought them — my very own pair of ruby red slippers.

I ventured to New York City from my home base in Sydney for the very first time in August 2009. Armed with an electric guitar and a couple of unique jumpsuits designed by my creative studio, View of Courage Studios, I was ready for what the city had to offer. I played a couple of audio visual shows in Brooklyn, under my performer guise, Flutter Lyon, in Bushwick and Williamsburg, that were very well received. Then I felt the need to get these jumpsuits that I had designed, hand-printed and made in Sydney onto some of the new friends I had made during my time there. Brooklyn’s McCarren Park, Enids
Summertime at McCarren Park in Williamsburg is picturesque. It’s often filled with a mix of people, old and young, picnicking or sitting in the shade, running along the track or playing soccer (or football, depending on where you’re from). It’s also connected to a now defunct McCarren (swimming) pool which transforms into an outdoor concert space on Sundays during the summer. I usually steer clear of anything smelling of disco-breaks: the thought just bores me. But with Padded Cell’s new release, Night Must Fall, I see a bit of a U-turn on the horizon. There’s something really interesting going on here: it’s a cocktail of 80′s swank laced with woozy narcotic undertones and flecked with snappy drum loops: weird, undeniably dark and ominous, but nonetheless pretty damn satisfying. Baltimore Mural by Josh Van Horne
My friend Josh Van Horne, a local Baltimore artist, did this amazing mural in our neighborhood that depicts the history of this warehouse-laden area.
Made from 100 percent organic cotton and eco-friendly, this super soft tee celebrates a sinister world of kaleidoscopic colours and ripples of psychedelia, of serenading Queens, of dancing flamingos, of unimaginable euphoria.
