Richard Hawley on Bob Lind

I played with Bob Lind last month which was a real honor. I grew up with my dad playing his records such as ‘Elusive Butterfly’ and ‘Truly Julies Blue’ He is a lovely bloke and his new songs are better than the ones he had hits with in the 60s. [see also Christopher Denny]

Hailing from Queens, NY, The Shivers recently released their latest record, More, via Silence Breaks. The New York cult favorites will be guest writing for Lost at Minor all week.

Pete McKee

Pete McKee is a Sheffield artist and a top bloke. You see his work in loads of pubs in Sheffield and he paints a lot of local subjects. He has a cartoon way of painting — very simple and pretty unique. He got a bit more famous recently because Noel Gallagher rang him up and asked him to paint a twelve foot guitar. I have one of his works in our front room. Read more

Shane Meadows

I just worked with British film director Shane Meadows on two videos, which was a real honor. Shane is a great film director. His last film — This Is England [above] — was one of the best I’ve seen in years. [watch the trailer]

Glass Harmonica

The Glass Harmonica is an amazing instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin. I wanted to put one on my new album but time and money ran out. One day I hope to feature one. They are really delicate things and have to be assembled and unassembled every time you move them.

Just like myself, Courtney Reagor counts becoming a professional cupcake maker as one of her interests. She had me at ‘cupcake’, but easily held my interest with the predominantly hand-drawn illustrations on her site. She uses pen ink and humour to create illustrations for Time Out Chicago and CMYK, among other publications.

The pre-eminent scientist Stephen Hawking has envisioned what our most far flung neighbors might look like, using the latest computer technology, for the new documentary series, Into The Universe. Hmm, it’s not too dissimilar to what you might find on the People of Walmart blog. Right? We joke! We joke! Read more

Damn, ten years of playing guitar in loud rock bands, and not once did we have a slamming moshpit like this. Banging heads is so, so fun.

With its countless abandoned buildings and neglected public space, Baltimore is the perfect city for wheat-paste artists. Gaia has set up shop here, and now pieces by Nanook have been popping up around town. Read more

A Paper Tiger is a new venture that launched in January of this year selling exclusive prints by some of my favorite artists such as Jack Long [shown above]. Read more

There are two kinds of metalheads: those that are drawn by the hyper masculine, angry, aggressive aspect of metal, and those that are drawn by its Wagnerian drama, themes of pagan nature worship, and disdain towards modern civilization. The line between the latter and hippies is quite thin. I am one of these sorts of metal fans, which is why I also really love bands like The Lickets, an empyrean, luminously beautiful, experimental folk collective. They make music that makes you feel like a tiny speck floating in the vast oceans of existence, perfect for a night of star gazing, just like Burzum’s fourth album, Filosifem.

During a recent visit to Australia, I picked up one of these Das Monk tees. I figured I’d bring a little piece of Down Under-style back to America with me. They’re a sweet fit and run just a touch longer than a few other brands I’ve worn, so they pair well with fitted jeans. save yourself an airfare and grab one from our online store.

On this Virgin Mary HaloTech watch, the dial is a modern version of the nineteenth century art form of lithophanes, carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D. The watch features a light-up dial, LED light, and afterglo effect. Read more
