I just worked with British film director Shane Meadows on two videos, which was a real honor. Shane is a great film director. His last film — This Is England [above] — was one of the best I’ve seen in years. [watch the trailer]

I played with Bob Lind last month which was a real honor. I grew up with my dad playing his records such as ‘Elusive Butterfly’ and ‘Truly Julies Blue’ He is a lovely bloke and his new songs are better than the ones he had hits with in the 60s. [see also Christopher Denny]
Pete McKee is a Sheffield artist and a top bloke. You see his work in loads of pubs in Sheffield and he paints a lot of local subjects. He has a cartoon way of painting — very simple and pretty unique. He got a bit more famous recently because Noel Gallagher rang him up and asked him to paint a twelve foot guitar. I have one of his works in our front room. Read more
The Glass Harmonica is an amazing instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin. I wanted to put one on my new album but time and money ran out. One day I hope to feature one. They are really delicate things and have to be assembled and unassembled every time you move them.

It’s time you were be able to judge a book by its cover (something that I wished worked for wine, too). A handful of MFA Illustration grads from the School of Visual Arts decided to form a somewhat atypical book club by combining their interests for art and reading. The idea is a simple one: Read a book. Design a cover for it.
Photojournalist You Li has an impressive array of stark personal photos of various barren, empty/emptying natural and human landscapes across China, images not often seen of the world’s most populous nation. They’re sad and gritty, but also achingly poetic. Read more

The graduate exhibition of third year graphic design students at Sydney’s Design Centre is called 342 Seconds and relates to the estimated time required to view the show. The exhibition takes place on December 3 and looks to be well worth checking out, if these works by Jenny Lee [above] and Sean Batchelor [below] are anything to go by. Now, c’mon, if you had the chance to lay a clever one liner on William Shatner, you would, right? Yeah. If you could look him in the eyes, gently brush his laser gun out of your face, and unleash that killer put down that you’ve had swirling around the deepest cavaties of your subconcious ever since episode six of the fourth series, you’d grab it with both hands and offer up a thanks to those strange looking alien creatures who rule our universe. Well, guess what? You can. And while you’re at it, why don’t you give Dustin Diamond an ear full, too. Ah, the joys of unrequited paybacks.
Strip away the cookie monster vocals and downtuned, distorted guitars, it’s hard to imagine death metal still reading as death metal, but 8-bit duo Dr. Zilog manage to do just that. The Floridian sound-card tweakers make some pretty amazing original, NES tunes that are strangely compelling, catchy, and actually quite metal.
Now I know what you’re thinking. This Australian summer you’re going to see the wayfarer style ripped-off and ruined by flouro festival wearers all over the country. But these babies aren’t just for show. Handmade by one of Italy’s most prestigious factories, using Zeiss lenses, they’re a far cry from the flimsy market numbers you’ll catch the masses wearing.
