Dennis Juan Ma digs The White Stripes
We asked New Zealand illustrator Dennis Juan Ma where the first spark of an idea generally comes from: ‘I often decide the story behind the illustration first according to the brief. Even it’s a self promotional work, I’ll still do the same thing. Most of my works are based on human characters, so I will go research elements and patterns that serve the story. The next step is like playing a puzzle game and the only difference is that I draw everything on the same piece of paper. With coloring, it’s more improvisation. A bit like Jazz. Almanac Market in Philadelphia is slightly pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. Offering fantastic bread, cheeses, produce, and cured meats such as sopressata and pepperoni, it was a great pit stop when my band played in town, and definitely more economical and tasty than hitting a greasy spoon for road snacks.
