We asked vocalist Scott Masson from Chicago rock group, Office, how vibrant the creative scene in his hometown is right now: ‘Chicago is alive and well, and way more vital to the American landscape than a lot of people think. If you notice, many people in LA and New York are looking to the Midwest for something real and inspired. LA and New York are wonderful cities, but always run the risk of being more concerned with the “fashionable” aspects of the moment — being safely cosmopolitan and rather content within their own predictable, “we have it all” mentalities. Artists in the Midwest, I feel, are more interested in creating a dialogue with the audience, and don’t base success on money or fame. Midwestern people seem to harness an intense working class drive within their creative endeavors, which is refreshing’.

Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.
