The Lovers
One of my favorite bands, beside biggies like Belle & Sebastian, Languis, and The Smiths, is this French band I discovered recently called, The Lovers. If you’re in one of those hectic moods and you just feel like dancing until you collapse, play The Lovers — loudly — and you’ll get there. They’re about as poppy and bubbly as it gets. So on a recent trip to Provence in the South of France where the Estoublon estate has its roots, quite literally, a quick stop for a tasting was on the agenda. Set on a massive 48 acres, replete with vineyards, olive groves, gardens, a pond, and of course, a massive château, the space is inspiring, as are its products. Read more

Fernanda Cohen solo show in Argentina
I opened a solo show at the prestigious Centro Cultural Borges in Buenos Aires on Thursday. Called Water Makes Me Wet, the exhibition runs until the end of the month. I also just finished a set of window displays for high-end, Argentine fashion designer, Martin Churba, which opened last week. Martin Churba’s window displays can be seen at Tramando until September 6th, 2009. They’re co-related to the exhibition. Read more

I have a great admiration for hand-screen printing. It reminds me of my days back at college studying art when life was a lot easier and dreams were actually attainable aspirations. Arhhh! Chicago-based Dan Grzeca works with a traditional style of print, designing old-school show posters that are crisp, clean and very appealing. I’ve been told that he will be releasing 52 new works this year, so get ready for the deluge.

Comedy troupe Summer of Tears edited itself into the classic ’80s movie Teen Wolf, starring Michael J. Fox, providing a new and gut-bustingly hilarious side-plot.
It’s the final, sultry day of Barcelona’s experimental sound-fest, Sonar, and weary punters are gazing listlessly at an empty, smoke-filled stage. Before long, a vocalist, beatboxer and grand pianist stride on, and what follows is a startling and, at times, deeply melancholic cabaret-electronic hybrid, prompting jaws to drop and delighting the drowsy. Meet Khan of Finland: ‘I tell stories about my everyday life; they are songs about love, pain, party and spirituality. I would call it bionic blues’.
