Zanerobe [giveaway]
We’ve been longtime fans of Aussie streetwear label ZANEROBE. The guys have just released their Summer World Series collection — which they describe as ‘Evel Knievel meets Eddie the Eagle’. Whatever it’s called, it’s good timing with summer banging on the door. They had some gear floating around and have chucked our way a male and female summer clothing pack. To go into the draw, all you have to do is leave a comment under this post saying what you plan to do this summer (or winter for those in the north).
Double vote-count if you forward this post onto a mate or two. Winner announced 25 September under this post.

We’ve been long time fans of Aesop, which is making quite a name for itself in the alternative beauty products space. So it was no surprise to hear they’ve entered the fragrance market. True to form, their new range of perfumes are distinctive, unorthodox and intense. Read more

Feiyue shoes have arrived in Australia and I can’t wait to get a pair of these treads on my hoofs. They look like they could be the new Onitsuka Tigers, but with more edge and personality. The story goes that these shoes were big in China in the 1920s, before a brand revival in 2006 got them some traction in Europe. You can join the chat over at their Facebook page or check them out in person via their Australian stockists, Tuchuzy (Sydney), Nique (Melbourne) and Brave New World (Perth). Read more

There’s something magic about being in the same space as those performing at the very height of their field. The Australian Chamber Orchestra have just kicked off their Great Romantics national tour and it was a treat to see them live in Newcastle, Australia for their first show. I’m no chamber orchestra aficionado, but I know good music when I hear it. And the tones played by lead violinist Richard Tognetti are as sweet as you could hope to hear. Can’t hurt having a 1743 Guarneri del Gesù violin under the chin. A tour worth checking out.

Summer….wow….it’s still winter down here in Tassie, despite what the calendar says…snow on the mountain above the city today! So I plan to wait until January and then put a t-shirt on! ![]()

I will be having winter in summer — travelling across the USA (complete with skiing!) and enjoying northern hemisphere weather in general. I’m looking forward to escaping sweltering summer heat… maybe I’ll change my tune after I’ve had a second winter this year. ![]()
In other summer plans: a wedding to attend, job and digs to find, and a new year of new fun and challenges and life to begin living!

This summer i am going to figure out exactly what i am going to do in life. I’ve been a graphic designer for the past 5 years, but i think there’s more to life. My new career may possibly be “full time surf bum” – this summer i will learn to surf, i can’t wait.

Every summer I relocate my design studio’s office, which is based on my partner’s farm (halfway between Adelaide and Melbourne) to the sunny locale of Beachport, South Australia! Generally I try and make myself work until 3pm and then take my laptop upstairs between the hours of 3 and 4pm to work on the balcony in the sunshine and then knock off at 4pm with a few sauv blancs – all for good measure! Weekends are spent 30 metres away from the house on the beach with my dog Bully! Summer time for me is all about taking in the lifestyle and finding a good balance!

This summer I will be embarking on a journey of self discovery in order to better understand myself, my purpose, and my place within the universe.
That’s what I intend to do. Realistically though, I’ll spend the whole 3 months maintaining my Facebook page.

ZANEROB is a dream come true to a thriftstore loving hospice raider such as myself…plus I live in South Africa where such clothing does not exist!!! This is surely my destiny!!!! i’ll be either snowboarding or dancing in the rain depending on which coast i plan to spend my Winter up North. If i’m lucky, maybe i’ll get bits of snowboarding/skiing in there on a budget, if not, then i’ll be shovelling snow and sprinkling salt on driveways. Family, friends, food and wine…a definite state of relaxation. Gift-shopping? (unlikely) …
so you see..to keep me in good summery cheer….during dismal wintry days…this lil summer package would be a swell addition to life ![]()

I’ll be mowing that bloody lawn a hell of a lot more than i did during winter (and perspiring a hell of a lot more too). On the bright side of things though, the dog turds tend to dry out and turn that crumbly-powdery white much more rapidly during the summer months….. thus being much more easier on the old snoz when that victa blade goes to work!

summer’s all about wearing cotton dresses and hang out wit yo friends in the sunshine, having picnics and eating ice-cream, drinking milkshakes and having waterfights and chasing the boyz around the park and pinning them down to paint their nails fluoro pink.

I can’t wait for summer! I can come out of hibernation. I’m going to fix my poor surfboard and go surfing. My favourite spot here in Sydney is Nth Narrabeen. But I might also go and visit my Gran in New Zealand. She lives in a tiny town on the west coast of the North Island, its called “Waitara” which is Maori for River mouth. The town sits where the river that runs down from the nearby mountain meets the sea. Its a rugged and beautiful place, and because of the river mouth, it has an amzing permanant surf break. Scary though… only the tough local moari boys ride it, with helmets for the rocks underneath! Maybe I’ll give it a go though… I can’t wait for summer!!

Busting for summer to kick in. Time to hang with good mates, make new ones at the festivals, soak up the Sydney vibe of late balmy nights on the balcony or falling out of nightclubs & spend as much time at the beach as possible. What a rockin’ country we live in!
Bring It On!

The whole point of summer (or so I’ve heard) is to do away with the planning and just have fun! So I will be: relaxing, drinking excessively, going to as many gigs as possible, and following some roads less travelled.

I love the guys from Zanerobe. Jono – you are a star and love what you have done with the lable. I am planning to spend this summer having a winter. I have just moved to Hong Kong and plan to spend the time exploring the surrounding islands, eating the great food and partaking in the national passtime – shopping. As we are off to Vancouver for Christmas, I think we will have a few days tearing it up at Whistler.

HAVE YOUR SAY
London illustrator Simon Brader’s work is innovative and full of topical innuendo. I love his colour choices in particular, the soft watery washes blending energetically with the more stubborn, edgy textures.
There’s a world-weariness about Two Gallants frontman Adam Stephens. It reveals itself in the Tom Waits-like raspiness that permeates his gin house drawl and in the talkin’ blues narratives that he weaves around his simple acoustic fingerpicking. They are the new superstars of the West Coast scene, majestic showmen in homespun rags.
Listen to the Two Gallants track, The hand that held you down.
Riffing on the idea that ‘eating was tending toward breathing’, Harvard professor David Edwards, in conjunction with design studio Le Laboratoire, has created Le Whif, the breathable chocolate. No chewing, no calories, and it comes in mint, rasberry, mango, and plain chocolate flavors. The product may just be a fancy scratch-and-sniff sticker, but it looks so sleek and design-y.
No, this is not a still from a Dr Who episode. It is, instead, the facade of the Wotruba Church, built between 1974 and 1976 and located in the beautiful Austrian suburb of Mauer, the 23rd district of Vienna. Now, if only all religious buildings were so damn adventurous. It would kinda make Christmas mass more enjoyable. Read more
If animated wall drawings of severed heads and insect men ejecting their brains from their craniums is what people produce when they have too much time on their hands, then we should do their laundry for them and cook them dinner so they’ll have even more time on their hands.
