Ben Harper’s Lifeline
I’ve enjoyed listening to the pre-release of Ben Harper’s new album, Lifeline. Recorded in Paris on the back of an eight week tour of Europe, Lifeline provides all the hooks, passion and musical integrity that we’ve come to expect from Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals. As he says on his website about the making of the album: ‘So after nine months of touring, and at the close of an eight week tour of Europe, my band The Innocent Criminals and I loaded directly off the road and into an elegantly humble recording studio in Paris called Studio Gang. The record, entitled Lifeline, was recorded and mixed in seven days on a sixteen track analog tape machine. There were no computers or pro-tools used anywhere in the process’.

Around the corner is Sydney’s busiest shopping strip, the Pitt Street Mall. And across the road is the iconic Hyde Park. Surry Hills, Kings Cross and Darling Harbour are not far from the Park8. We stayed in a 1 bedroom loft apartment, which includes a wonderfully large spa bath and rainshower. Read more

When looking at the beautiful paintings of Mamma Anderson, I almost get the impression that the art world is being forced to look back upon itself. The body of her work seems to present itself like a textured snapshot of galleries, coffeshops and well-designed interiors. The rough, folksy execution of these paintings stands in pretty stark contrast to the particularly slick world she chooses to depict. Refreshing, to say the least. Read more

Located on a mountain in country outside Mudgee, in New South Wales, Australia, a permanent camp designed by Casey Brown has been set. A timber structure clad in copper has been designed to have a closed state and an open state. From the closed position, the flanks of copper are hoisted and capture views across the valley. With an imagery of structures, materials and mechanics of old, there is something romantic about this foothold on the hill.

Black Eyed Dog is the project of Fabio Parrinello, a singer-songwriter from Varese, in northern Italy. His second album, Rhaianuledada (Songs To Sissy), brims with a brooding intensity, referencing the best British folk ballads of the past. Rhaianuledada (Songs To Sissy) was recorded at Vicolo Recording Studio in Sicily by Fabio Genco and was mastered by Luca Martegani in Varese. Listen to the track Honeysuckle Gal.
