Desktoptopia
Desktoptopia is a new application for the Mac that manages your desktop backgrounds by pulling high resolution designer desktops from the master collection to display on your desktop as often as you wish. All submitted desktops go through an approval process from other designers to weed out the ones that probably shouldn’t be seen within one hundred feet (with a steel pole) of your computer. Colorful is certainly the word when talking about the work of UK artist Simon Wild. It’s hard to be in anything but an upbeat mood after staring at all the swirling colors and bright shapes for even a minute or so.

Chicago’s Cheer Accident started as a post-no-wave weirdo band typical of the Skin Graft roster, but of late, they’ve been doing some unrestrained pop and rock. They even have harmonized vocals and an occasional horn. This isn’t to say they’re commercializing – their songs are just as complex as ever, and there’s still a hint of discordance beneath the shimmering new sound.
