Sleevage

If you’ve ever wondered about the behind-the-scenes stories of some your all-time favourite album covers, then the Sleevage website may well become your new best friend. Though be warned: it will not take your call at 3 in the morning when you just need to … ummm … ‘talk’. I like this write-up on Bjork’s Volta cover in particular: ‘The sculpture by Bernhard Willhelm, a famous fashion designer, is a mix between a Russian Doll and a melted bag of Chuppa Chups’. Indeed.

Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV

The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.

Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend

Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

Taking inspiration from Lewis Carroll, Dr Seuss, and Salvador Dali, Rose Skinner creates vibrant installation art from candy, plastic, and toys. Of her work, she says: ‘my intricate compositions of eclectic materials play tantalizing games on your senses; you are bombarded with colors and textures sounds and smells, metaphors and iconography that are used often in ironic ways’. Ok, so you say you love Conan, but do you really mean it? I mean, really, really mean it? Oh, you do. So, go on then, prove it. In ink. Now! [wink wink]

Micah P. Hinson is like every rustic, broken down, and pieced back together country great that’s ever been. Only hipper and slightly less sombre. This track, Diggin’ A Grave, is a button-up hoe down with a classic pop chorus and a jangly banjo accompaniment. Yup, some folk have all the fun.

This Purple House for Pembrokeshire represents an unconscious and personal trip into the Norman legacy during the Middle Ages, aiming to find a lost sense. What were the forgotten exchanges between England, Wales, Ireland and the Mediterranean shorelines? Read more

Dirty, sludgy, d-beat-loving hardcore band Trap Them from Salem, New Hampshire are about to release their third full-length, Darker Handcraft, on Prosthetic Records. I for one am super excited.

Yes, we’ve all been there: the chinese food from last week that still looks edible amongst the bare surrounds of an empty fridge. But really, we shouldn’t. Just let it be. Or College Humor will expose you! Read more
