There must be something in their signature brand of water that brainwashed me into buying $350 worth of products after my facial because I’m really not a product junkie. But after being told by my facialist that I had photodamage, I started to get a bit concerned. A few weeks later I happened across Barbara Closes’ Pure Skin: Organic Beauty Basics, which shows women (and men) how to realistically care for their skin from a holistic perspective. She covers everything from the impossible to pronounce ingredients on cosmetic labels (Imidazolidinyl Urea) to a motivating and doable 14-day detox. [photos by Gentl & Hyers]

In early 1965, LIFE photographer Bill Ray spent several weeks with The Hells Angels. Ray recalls his days and nights with Buzzard, Hambone, Big D, and other Angels (and their ‘old ladies’) at a time when the roar of Harleys and the sight of long-haired bikers was still new, alien, and for the average, law-abiding citizen, simply terrifying. This is a selection of Ray’s images originally published by LIFE.com, and more images can be seen on their website. [via Feature Shoot] Read more

Husband and wife artistic duo Gustavo Aguerre and Ingrid Falk (known as FA+) joined forces to create this giant toaster mural out of 2,500 browned pieces of toast. The combination of the medium and subject matter is just genius, don’t you think?
This clip had such an impact on me when it first came out, back in the day. There’s just something so poignant about the idea that some people you pass on the street everyday have a little bit more insight into their world — our world — than we could ever imagine. It’s beautiful and confronting, and it’s all set to the most wonderfully evocative music.
Located on West Houston, Alphaville is my favorite gift store in Manhattan. It offers a great selection of vintage objects, from Nixon’s campaign buttons, to Sesame Street 80s mobiles, 50s greeting cards and the original Mr. Potato Head and his friends. It’s one of those places I walk into just to look but always end up buying something.
I’ve seen a lot of strange things on the Internet, but this Tumblr just baffles me. It’s called Animals with Casts, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. Picture after picture of different animals wearing casts. Read more
Castevet are a promising new experimental black metal band out of New York. They have a much more complex and technical approach than other bands of this ilk, revealing post-hardcore and death metal influences as evidenced by guitarist Andrew Hock’s work in deathgrind outfit Biolich and Boston jazz/death/doom band Ehnahre.
What a wonderfully grown up ethos of punk is to be found in the latest effort by New Zealand’s Stolen Girlfriends Club. I saw sequin, lace, leather, denim, tulle, rhinestone and what appeared to be heshen, breaking all the rules of taste but nevertheless making me very, very happy. Read more

The problem with awesome things like these pencils made out of recycled newspaper is that you almost don’t want to use them.
