Our friends over at Australian-based music site FasterLouder are throwing one hell of a shebang next Friday night (August 10) at Sydney’s Gaelic Theatre. They’ve assembled an awesome line-up of international and local artists as a free event to ‘say thanks’ to the site’s many contributors. Included on the bill are New Zealand’s The Mint Chicks [pictured above]; Queensland upstarts I Heart Hiroshima (damn that’s a cute name); and Swedish ‘garage post punk pop’ duo +46 Motherfukkers. It’s going to be fun, so RSVP through the FasterLouder website and get those dancing shoes firmly strapped on.

New Banksy artwork angers the Catholic Church
Banksy has struck again, this time offending the Catholic Church with a bold artwork that critiques their stance on ongoing child abuse scandals. Banksy has taken a replica of a bust of an eighteenth century member of the Catholic hierarchy and added multi-coloured tiles to the face — pixelating it — as a comment on what he considers to be the Church’s cover-up. ‘I’m never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one’, Banksy noted. Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design
Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

Images of figures with movable body parts that you control with the help of strategically placed wires tell a story of a life filled with false consumer hopes, drug addictions, and getting caught by the cops. Portland artist Aijung Kim creates the most heartfelt and endearing comics and prints. A highly candid viewing experience at times both quiet and haunting, often as cozy and reassuring as a familiar friend. With a keen eye for folksy patterns and clean detail, Kim’s work is simply a treat to view.

Grace is part of a new series of books by author Dale Cusack. The story chronicles the lives of Grace and her feline companion Boot in their struggle to fight the evil Drawl and the cover illustration was done by Auckland-based artist, and Lost At E Minor contributor, Dennis Juan Ma. We asked him about what shaped the colour choices for the piece: ‘I wanted to create a mystery world within the reality. I wanted the colour to encourage readers to stimulate their imagination. I illustrated the covers with a classical Japanese wood block look to show the oriental flavour of the cat’s world. And it just happens that I’m a wood block art fan’. Read more

Sao Paulo designer Andreia Chaves created these extraordinary ‘invisible shoes‘, which are made from a ‘faceted mirrored surface allowing the shoe to reflect different angles of the environment around it thus camouflaging itself with its surroundings’. Read more
