The Other store
We love the recently launched Other online store. Not just because of its cool selection of royalty-free illustrations (like this one above, available as a free download for all Lost At E Minor readers), ultra cute designer kiddie range, and collection of canvases, cushions, and snap cards, but also because, with its international aesthetic, Other owns that space between sophisticated and fun using funky colours and minimalist designs.

Vibrant, colourful photos of New York in 1971
We love the voyeuristic thrill of these photos by Gentle Giant that ran on the Retronaut website and reveal a vibrant, thriving, bustling New York in 1971 that looks vaguely similar to the New York that I experienced between 2006 and 2011. Minus the beehive hairdoes, flares, and the big red phone booths, of course. Read more
New Banksy artwork critiques London Olympics, perhaps
That elusive street art urchin (and we mean that in the nicest possible way), Banksy, has struck again in London, with a new artwork mysteriously appearing on the wall of a shop on Whymark Avenue, Turnpike Lane. As is to be expected, the street art sends a subtle social message, though so subtle in this case that Banksy-philes are torn over whether it is criticising the upcoming Olympics, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee or last summer’s riots. It had to happen sooner or later. Italian-based ADR Studio have created a prototype for the world’s first Instagram photo camera, armed with a duffle bag worth of features, including 16 GB mass storage; Wifi and Bluetooth; an Internal printer to make your Instagram photos real; and paper cartridge with Instagram Paper Sheets. Genius! Well, at least, we think so. They’re currently looking for Indiegogo funding to make it all happen on a far bigger scale. Read more

I love the sense of escapism and richness of colour that seeps through the work of Shintaro Marky, an Australian-based artist who resides somewhere deep within Braidwood, in remote Southern New South Wales. Read more
Recreating VHS-style blurry imagery through traditional painting techniques, Kon Trubovich has created a really unique visual style. His work definitely shares a similarity with the photo-painting style of Gerard Richter, which is always a thumbs up in our books. Read more

Bringing statistics to life is not particularly easy, but this website does so with a creative brilliance. Using interactive animation and videos, you can look at a wide ranging set of sustainable global development data as the numbers change across space and and time. It promotes a statistically-founded world view, and somehow makes that fun.
I’m a big fan of Alex Turner’s side project, The Last Shadow Puppets. It’s just really good music. When I first got their record, I didn’t know if it was a re-issue or if it was brand new. It doesn’t sound like a jokey pastiche. It sounds sincere.

Marc Jacobs’ newly unleashed Autumn 08 collection hit the stage this week and if there is an international designer who I couldn’t appreciate any more, then it’s Marc. His signature patent-leather goods are the apple of my eyes and I think my MJ leather-quilted wallet, stam-bag and ballet mouse flats are being overlooked for Mark Jacob’s freshly launched red velvet trimmed pumps.
