Set to save 85% in traffic light power consumption, a project is launching in Taiwan to kit all traffic lights with LEDs by 2011. According to our friends over at Inhabitat there are plans to tackle street lights as well, with Taiwan leading a shift in climate-friendly lighting. We’re wondering if Lost At E Minor’s home cities of Sydney and New York will follow suit.

Yeah as far as I know, all of the new traffic lights are LED and some of the older ones are being gradually replaced. Street lights is another question though… it’d be rather refreshing if we opted for a city-wide street light update to LED.

NYC has had LED traffic lights for years.
