Compiled by the ‘editors of Pictoplasma, and expanding on the widely popular subject of contemporary character design, [Dot Dot Dash!] showcases an up-to-date survey of the personalities and characters that have entered the third dimension. Vinyl figures, plush dolls, designer toys and action figures can be seen as a new movement in contemporary design, art and popular culture.
The new generation characters appear cute, cuddly and innocuous at first but are often elicit, subversive and politically incorrect. This voluptuous volume exhibits the expansive scope of designs and objects in the ultimate compilation of contemporary character design. Jim Crawford the co-founder of Strange Co, one of the largest distributor of designer toys has contributed to the making of this book’. It’s available through Die Gestalten.

New Banksy artwork angers the Catholic Church
Banksy has struck again, this time offending the Catholic Church with a bold artwork that critiques their stance on ongoing child abuse scandals. Banksy has taken a replica of a bust of an eighteenth century member of the Catholic hierarchy and added multi-coloured tiles to the face — pixelating it — as a comment on what he considers to be the Church’s cover-up. ‘I’m never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one’, Banksy noted. Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design
Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

I’m in love with interior decoration designer Jonathan Adler’s Druggist Pottery collection. It is so old school, but new school, yet edgy. They’re on sale at the moment, so I just purchased a white Anger Jar. I live in New York, so I tend to have a lot of … errr … emotion to store in there.
I discovered Henryk Siemiradzki after doing a Wikipedia search on the word decadence and found a whole lot of his art. The detail is insane.
In Japan, when one makes squeezing gestures with both hands at chest level, one is gesturing that one wants candy — soft, round, bouncy candy. At least, that’s what this commercial would have us believe.
This gourmet paint is made by only two dedicated paint makers without fillers, just pigment and oil, like it should be. There is only one store that sells it and it is run out of the Elisabeth Foundation for the Arts building in Chelsea, New York. They have a table set up there so you can play with and mix any of the colours together to see its effects. I usually go to pick one tube up and hang around asking questions to one half of the duo, Gail, and usually leave with five tubes, having learned a lot about the history and the process behind each colour.

Beach House are certainly different. The dream pop/indie rock duo from Baltimore create music bursting with atmospheric rhythms, pretty organs and poignant lyrics. I’m loving Norway, the twosome’s debut single from their upcoming album, Teen Dream. If the vocals sound familiar, that’s because lead singer Victoria Legrand shared backing vocals on Grizzly Bear’s Two Weeks. Now how’s that for trivia?

Nono Muaks makes some pretty quirky products that would make great novelty gifts, but I don’t quite get this Double TEE, which has no front or back: it’s a ’360 degree experience’.
