12×12

Watim [weAREtheIMAGEmakers] is currently planning its first exhibition called 12×12 at the new aMBUSH Gallery Space in Waterloo, Sydney. Featuring 144 paintings by a mix of 12 established and emerging artists from all over Australia, the 12X12 exhibition stays true to WATIM’s principles by helping emerging artists get more exposure by way of exhibiting their work alongside more recognised artists. This piece is by beastman, who is one of the 12 participating artists in the 12X12 exhibition. It uses acrylic & ink on used pizza box – now that’s recycling.

Park8 Hotel, Sydney

The Park8 Hotel is one of Sydney’s lesser known boutique hotels, but it’s the place to stay if you fancy taking Sydney by foot. Around the corner is Sydney’s busiest shopping strip, the Pitt Street Mall. And across the road is the iconic Hyde Park. Surry Hills, Kings Cross and Darling Harbour are not far from the Park8. We stayed in a 1 bedroom loft apartment, which includes a wonderfully large spa bath and rainshower. Read more

We checked in recently with New York based Argentinean illustrator, Fernanda Cohen. How’s the illustration scene in New York at the moment? ‘Over crowded, sometimes repetitive and predictable, but there are always jewels here and there. I believe most of the emerging stars in the illustration field in the past few years came out of New York, mostly SVA graduates’. Read more

In Japan, when one makes squeezing gestures with both hands at chest level, one is gesturing that one wants candy — soft, round, bouncy candy. At least, that’s what this commercial would have us believe.

Along with the greening of brown sites, this has to be one of the answers for a more eco future. To take a large piece of land, to maintain the bulk of it as it is naturally, and then to design a highly dense yet attractive living environment. Read more

The first album released by the Malian duo Amadou & Mariam, Dimanche a Bamako, bordered on exceptional, if not for its songwriting then for its sheer diversity. You’d be forgiven for approaching cautiously an album that draws its influences from Syria, Cuba, Egypt, India, and Colombia, as well as its own country – much like a restaurant that offers every cuisine on the planet: choose one and do it well, you’d argue. But the album is fantastic: so full of life, so catchy and so accessible. Read more

Ok, so that’s me up there on the right. Yup, rocking out in the 55DSL tee and feeling a little pleased with how it’s all going down. Well, actually, a disclaimer: it’s not … quite … me. I mean, I’m wearing the same shirt right now as he is, and I’m kinda the same height. But he isn’t the same person. We aren’t one. But I love this 55DSL shirt in the same way that he … ummm … loves himself. So I guess that we’re both damn happy. Read more
