Founded by Cut Copy musician Dan Whitford and Melbourne University design guest lecturer Jono Wallace, Alter is a Melbourne-based design studio taking an innovative approach to branding.
‘Alter has carved out of a strong signature in music for cult brands like Modular Recordings, the Ministry of Sound and Virgin Festival. More recently Alter have demonstrated their creative application across mediums through their campaign for the MTV Music Awards. The diversity of their work also extends to the Portable Film Festival as well as ongoing projects for fashion stables including Levis, Adidas, Mambo, Stussy and General Pants’. We asked photographer Angela Boatwright if her energetic photographs were a reflection of her personality, what happens on set, or both: ‘Hahaha! I’m guessing it’s a reflection of my personality, although who knows. I’m definitely not a mellow person, that’s for sure. I try and have as much fun as humanly possible when I’m shooting’.

The Deal sisters have dropped off the indie-rock radar of late, but this clip of them covering Hank Williams’ I Can’t Help It reminds us why we all loved them so much back in the day. Incidentally, the Breeders are set to release their new album, Mountain Battles, in April.
Whitest Boy Alive follow their own rules: no overdubs, no FX, and the music is always recorded live in one take. Fronted by Erlend Øye (of Kings Of Convenience notoriety), the Berlin collective produce a distinctive blend of minimalist melodies and pillowy grooves. And on the eleven tracks that constitute their new album, Rules, they convey one polite directive: please, move your body.
