Lapses in time

Capturing events within defined, lapses of time is an expression of art born from the convenience of technology. Amateur photographers worldwide are taking self-portraits at set times each day, creating bizarre photographic journals. Others are photographing the world from their perspective at regular intervals and forming photographic narratives of their daily activities. Yet another application of the time lapse concept, the Skycatcher project photographs the sky above Amsterdam every five minutes, with the camera positioned in the centre of the city on the rooftop of Amsterdam’s Centre for Culture and Politics. One can’t help thinking of the tales bound to unfold if the camera was shooting scenes from Amsterdam’s adventurous streets below.

There are few more joys an artist has in life than coming across great resources for inspiration. Lately I’ve been studying typography, the meaning of words, and then something as simple as trying to find all the ‘7 letter words’ I can so that it might fit into my latest musings. Read more

Canada seems to be the land of amazing ambient metal duos. Montreal has Menace Ruine, and Toronto has Nadja, a formidable couple that churns out huge-sounding, bass and electronics-driven doom that draws your gaze up towards the stars just as old cathedral ceilings humble the faithful and make them think of the Almighty.
