Edwina White
The bio of Brooklyn-based Australian illustrator Edwina White says it all: ‘Born on the shortest day, longest night in Sydney, White studied Visual Communications at UTS with a spell at Brighton University, UK. After graduating with the University Medal she taught classes for four years at UTS and UWS- while freelancing as an illustrator, fine artist, performer and writer. After her first solo show, 52 Pick-up, Edwina was encouraged to move to New York to continue illustration projects with Kate Larkworthy Artist Representation. International publications include Print Magazine, Creative Review UK, New York Times, Flaunt, Vogue Australia and Japan, Food Illustrated UK and Viking Children’s Books. Edwina’s work has been exhibited in the UK, Japan, USA and Australia. Across and Down (2005) White’s New York debut solo exhibition at Gigantic Artspace, included 57 drawings and collage works, installation, film and animation. Works are now in private collections worldwide, Art In General New York and The Hayward Gallery UK’. Phew! She says of her work, ‘I like a tight brief. A recipe. A score. An alphabet. A puzzle. To pin a thing down, I have to walk around it a bit — so I can find its heart’. [see more Edwina White]

Time cover shows mum breastfeeding her 3 year old son
Is this taking the whole concept of shocking cover images too far? This Time Magazine image shows 26 year old mum, Jamie Lynne Grume, breastfeeding her 3 year old son with the headline: ‘Are you mom enough?’. The story tackles the complex issue of child attachment, in the most blunt of ways. Anything for free publicity, I guess. And yes, we feel into the trap as well. Well, you know what they say about a sucker …

Crazed text messages from panicked scorned girl
Ok, so this is a good reminder why one night stands don’t always pay off, especially when one half of the stand reads too much into the previous evening’s, erm, activities. Out of Australia comes this bizarre, one-sided text correspondence from a girl directed at the guy who bedded her, then discreetly sent her on her way. It’s painful to read, especially as the texts were all unleashed over a period of, wait for it, a day. Check out the full stream of messages at Buzzfeed.

We asked Ham and Pete, from New York band The Walkmen, to give us the rundown on the music that is inspiring them right now and they started off with a track from that elder statesmen of indie folk, Bonnie Prince Billy, Goin’ to Acapulco: ‘He did a remarkable job of putting a unique spin on a classic. Stereomood is better than a freshly baked croissant. Okay, maybe you can’t eat Stereomood, but you can listen to it during cooking time. Just as I was waving good-bye to my iPod and closing the drawer I was burying it in, a friend of mine sent me a link. I was filled with complete happiness and optimism. The world will be okay, I thought to myself. I proposed to said friend as I was feeling quite romantic during our candlelit dinner and was rejected. I mm now feeling quite lonely, with a slight hangover.
