Ok, now this is weird stuff. Unsettling, dark and utterly brilliant. I shudder to think of the ideas that Salad Fingers creator David Firth dismisses before he lands on these five minute vignettes of folkloric surrealism. Genius or pure lunacy. It’s a fine line indeed. [see also Izzie Klingels]

One of our favourite illustrators, the UK-based Izzie Klingels, is currently working on a series of animated VTs for the new series of ‘Transmission’ (Channel 4), entitled ‘Memoirs of a Groupie’. Illustrated and directed by Klingels with animation company Popular Society the clips recount the stories of legendary 60s groupie, Pamela des Barres. This follows on from her animations for the recent Volvo commercial Happy Sad, which was, directed Rachel Thomas. [see also Izzie Klingels]

Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV
The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

I really adored Salad Fingers when I first discovered him – there wasnt much like it at all.. However I do think that one cartoon tops it on the whole “sick and twisted” thing, which is Spoilsbury Toast Boy.
One of Firths masterpieces methinks – there are only two episodes, but that seems to be a good thing – any more and your brain would explode

I love salad fingers…. he is somewhat crazy and you see his life the way he sees it. I have to say this is my favorite infamous cartoon…

This isn’t an outdoor art installation, but it is still somewhat curated. Or maybe hoarded is a better description. Somewhere in the inner western suburb of Sydney’s Summer Hill, there is a brightly coloured collection of garden gnomes on display. The owner of the home is yet to be seen, but there are hundreds of gnomes, side by side, all with equally dopey expressions on their faces and accompanied by a second fixation: caterpillar soft toys. There are so many gnomes, the garden is no longer visible. Maybe it’s an Amelie style prank that has just piled up over the years? Read more

This ‘communication prosthesis’ by designer Sascha Nordmeyer is hilarious and awesome. I want to wear one to a job interview.

I think that this cartoon is a try to make a cartoon for the Goth subculture, that’s why it’s made real dark and strange. If you see other “gothic” cartoons, they tend to be a lot like this and they tend to have dark humor also (like when he squished the worm thing).
