Canadian artist Andrew Pommier’s paintings are full of life and colour. As he told Design is Kinky, ‘I love looking at art that in my eyes is done well. When I draw or paint I want my work to be created with the idea that I’m pushing my technical abilities. My favourite artists are those that realize that technique — be it sloppy or tight — is as important as imagery. My own work comes from just exploring visual language. I like playing with icons and mixing relationships. Pen and paper is were I can explore ideas free from the weight of criticism. That’s what I love about drawing. It can be a way to work out an idea or it can stand alone as a completed piece of art’. [see also Neil Farber]

Banksy has taken a replica of a bust of an eighteenth century member of the Catholic hierarchy and added multi-coloured tiles to the face — pixelating it — as a comment on what he considers to be the Church’s cover-up. ‘I’m never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one’, Banksy noted. Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design
Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

The Kevin Ayers record Joy of a Toy from 1969 was released by Harvest Records and sits somewhere between Nick Drake and The Byrds. A record slightly ahead of its time, it was filled with enough interesting and clever arrangements and instrumentation to never bore. Girl on a Swing is my favorite tune for the tremolo guitar.
