So I spent last weekend in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, enjoying fine Southern cuisine, gracious hospitality ['y'all come back now!'] and the warmth of a sun beating down like a semi-gnarled blanket. It was interesting to see the cultural values of the city; the social graces of its people which permeate every conversation. It felt a bit like the American Airlines flight from New York was more like a time capsule to another time and place. Not that I was complaining. Nashville and its surrounds were beautiful, with majestic colours punctuating the stately urban facade [above left]. Still, nothing quite beats Central Park on a mild Spring day [above right]. It’s a welcoming oasis in an expansive concrete wilderness.

The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

I’m stoked about Blik Wall Graphics recent collaboration with Hybrid-Design. Their newest decal, Animal Friendlies features smaller graphics so you can create a mini storytelling vignette right on your wall. Because of their size, they don’t overwhelm a space (especially when you don’t have a large one).
Imagine a concrete chandelier, a rocking chair that doesn’t move, a wooden chair that looks like it’s come straight from the woods. Patrick Le Ray takes a lot of time to search for inspiration: in a forest or in a field close to Paris. His ideas are clever, and his work is well worth a look.
Says Van She bassist and vocalist Matt Van Schie about the Bush Tetras track — Too Many Creeps — from 1982: ‘I LOOOVE this tune. It opens with a perfect snare roll, and then the counter bass and guitar rhythms make it so cool. The lyrics are even more valid today. They’re one of my favourite bands of all time, and so many people try to do what they did for real. What a time! I wish I was born back then in New York, hanging out with these kids. Ahhhh!!’
Melbournes laneways are cluttered with themed, designer bars. The challenge seems to be which is the most hip, funky and individual bar. Step in Section 8, an old inner city carpark furbished with warehouse pallets, patio heaters and a couple of freight containers, converted to serve you drinks. The vibe is fittingly low-key, with background music played at a reasonable level, frequently changing decor, and a variety of options to quench your thirst. It’s casual, fun and simple.
