By now, every fashionista knows about Isabella Fiore handbags, the notorious Los Angeles based design company. They are launching a new footwear line and one of Promostyl’s illustrators landed the gig of Design director. Leave it up to Jerome Chouinard-Rousseau to propel the line to new highs. Available in July in stores, this is the best collection seen at the WSA show in Vegas, with a lot of thumbs up from the various editors in attendance. Very concise, and pulled together with an art deco mood, the detailing is exquisite. It’s a must have for 07.

After strolling through The Fillmore in San Francisco, you may end up at the bottom of the Golden Gate Bridge, which is where you can check out an exhibition of Vivienne Westwood clothing being held at the De Young center. It encompasses 30 years of her designs including the infamous The Queen With Safety Pins t-shirt as worn by The Sex Pistols. Also featured is a history of corsets, part of a dialogue between the innerwear coming out and turning outerwear. Ah, the mysteries and vagaries of fashion. This is all a very interesting and revealing exhibition.

Originally hailing from Kendal, Cumbria and now based in Leeds, the Wild Beasts foursome are the next hopefuls for Domino Records, who sent the group out to Sweden to record their first album, Limbo, Panto, released on June the 16th. The new single — The Devil’s Crayon — shimmers in wide-screen around a sense of location, melody and wonder at the scale of things. Indeed, it sounds like the theme song to a new kind of very English road movie.
I started reading a very funny book over the weekend by the English writer Toby Young called The Sound Of No Hands Clapping. Brilliant. Never has a title been so apt as Young bumbles his way through the fickle Hollywood movie industry. It’s an excellent study in human nature. The graduate exhibition of third year graphic design students at Sydney’s Design Centre is called 342 Seconds and relates to the estimated time required to view the show. The exhibition takes place on December 3 and looks to be well worth checking out, if these works by Jenny Lee [above] and Sean Batchelor [below] are anything to go by. Ten Masked Men are a British parody band that does death metal covers of famous pop songs by Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and many others. One of my favorites is their cover of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me a River’. It’s epic.
New York-based eco-line Loomstate create the coolest tees made of organic cotton. Each printed t-shirt not only celebrates nature but is stylishly crafted, with contrasting stitching coupled with signature twisted side seams for a sleek fit. My favourite is the Seabra design [pictured below]. And, boys, don’t fret because Loomstate cater for males, too. Read more
