Using captivating artwork to rebuild a community in the wake of disaster, Degrees of Separation is a book of ’33 detachable postcards that express people’s experiences and reflections upon Hurricane Katrina and its devastating aftermath’ by graphic designers living in, from, and connected to New Orleans. It started out as an online postcard magazine for designers linked to the area, and the original deadline for submissions was in fact the day Hurricane Katrina struck. Founder Samia Saleem was displaced from her New Orleans home and transformed Degrees of Separation into an outlet for designers to share experiences and reflection on the disaster, producing the book in a limited edition of 750 copies with 5% of proceeds going to the AIGA New Orleans Design Educational Fund.

The Hurley denim reps were rattled; they’d endured a long drive from Utah through what they described as the worst weather they’d ever experienced. NOW: an Analog Moving Picture Project
There’s a great story behind this prog-surf film. Riley Blakeway was an aspiring surf film-maker with incredible talent and a handfull of small film projects to his name. Chippa Wilson was a relatively unknown but amazing aerial surfer without the opportunity to show the world what he could do. In 2009, they won STAB magazine’s Little Weeds competition, respectively taking out the film-maker and surfer prizes. Read more

I’ve just returned from a well earned holiday at Heron Island, a natural coral cay off the coast of Queensland. No wave is alive and well, if Brooklyn duo Talk Normal are any indication. Drummer Andrya Ambro keeps things cohesive with surprisingly precise percussion, occasionally banging on such things as an electric guitar and an old iron pipe rigged with contact mics, while guitarist Sarah Register coaxes some unnerving and discordant noises from her axe and array of pedals. The two take turns shouting abstract and absurdist lyrics with voices like hi-tech valkyries from a futurist nightmare.
From an artist selection of t-shirts comes this limited edition David Bray illustrated silkscreened tee, distributed in a vinyl sleeve with a biography of the artist on the back of the sleeve.
