Homewares isn’t usually a word that you’d associate with music. Especially with Les Savy Fav, a band known for their concoction of dissonant pop, driving bass, disco drumming, bratty guitars, and spastic vocals. Lead singer Tim Harrington has taken his manic onstage enthusiasm, the design skills of his wife and channeled it into a range of patterned products. Deadly Squire aims to bring the sublime and exotic to the everyday and blur the line of where home and apparel meets. The products range from oven mitts to plates and bags but the winner is a cruiser skateboard complete with Deadly Squire branding and patterned deck.

I’ll admit it, on first listen and in a terrible figity mood, i jumped though the tracks, looking for the instant gratification of a big melody before switching to something else. Despite a few negative reviews from others also too quick to judge, the response to this album has been so astoundingly positive, it’s impossible to dismiss. Written after emerging from a period of social isolation and centered around issues of a man and his dying lover, The Antlers’ album, Hospice, slowly creeps up upon the listener.
