Established to ‘create a pool of resources to specifically address addiction and recovery needs within the music community’, the Musicares MAP Fund has been supported with proceeds from Nixon’s recent fourth installment of the Nixon Ltd Collection. Featuring leather donated by musicians including Slash, Ben Harper and Alice Cooper, each timepiece has the contributing artist’s name hand-etched on the back of the band and is individually numbered. There’s something very enchanting about wearing a piece of leather from the a jacket, guitar strap or pants formerly worn by an artist like Slash. Which artist’s leather would you like to wear? After weeks of packing Australia’s crate with the best of Aussie nightlife, our crate was farewelled in lavish style at the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange send-off party in Sydney last week. We discovered Australia is swapping with Brazil, so we’re hanging out for the samba and cachaça to sway ashore and lead us astray. The AP Tour brought metalcore music heavyweights and a convoy of sponsor vans head-first into a stormy Seattle last night. The Hurley denim reps were rattled; they’d endured a long drive from Utah through what they described as the worst weather they’d ever experienced. Joking around with them before the show I realised how shaken up these guys actually were; hands were still shaking and their laughter was racked by nerves. Read more
NOW: an Analog Moving Picture Project
There’s a great story behind this prog-surf film. Riley Blakeway was an aspiring surf film-maker with incredible talent and a handfull of small film projects to his name. Chippa Wilson was a relatively unknown but amazing aerial surfer without the opportunity to show the world what he could do. In 2009, they won STAB magazine’s Little Weeds competition, respectively taking out the film-maker and surfer prizes. Read more

New York photographer Amy Stein’s work ‘explores our evolving isolation from community, culture and the environment’. Her recently released book, Domesticated, began when she was in grad school. ‘I was simply trying to make compelling images that wouldn’t get eviscerated in critique’, she says of the project. ‘As the series progressed, I began to become interested in exhibiting the work and have had many opportunities to do so this year. The graduate exhibition of third year graphic design students at Sydney’s Design Centre is called 342 Seconds and relates to the estimated time required to view the show. The exhibition takes place on December 3 and looks to be well worth checking out, if these works by Jenny Lee [above] and Sean Batchelor [below] are anything to go by. Woohoo! Another flash game that actually tests your cognitive abilities. LightBot is a difficult, but satisfying game in which you direct a little robot using a system of simple commands in order to light up various squares on a grid. The first few levels guide you through the seemingly easy process, but when there are multiple sets of directions requiring you to write what are essentially codes, it can get pretty hairy.
