Lynda Holt
For all you girls out there hunting for that ultimate piece of jewellery that possesses the 3 ‘Gz’ — glitzy, glam, and gorgeous — and is sure to make a statement, turn heads and show you are a unique fashionista, then Lynda Holt is the jewellery designer for you. As I was sashaying around the many stalls at Australia Fashion Week in Sydney two years ago, I was struck with these colourful, chunky, and beautiful creations. Each piece is hand-made with a delicious blend of exotic and exquisite materials sourced from Asian, Parisian, Italian and Indian bead markets. Lynda’s creations have always attracted attention. My faves are the bright Turquoise/Red Chandelier necklace, adorned with large glass charms, Swarovski crystals, pearls, silk ribbon, trinkets and beads. And I can’t go past the vibrant Party Cracker necklaces made with ribbons of colour, crystals, fresh water pearls, stones, soft leather and the most fabulous sequined European ribbon. For a full range of her funky and innovative designs visit the Lynda Holt website.

Fashion editor, Bianca Chong, has been at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week: One of my favourite designers, Bowie, was the first show I saw for the week and as usual he didn’t disappoint. This season Bowie has an eclectic and quirky mix of fabrics, colours, and styles for both guys and girls that form his well-received collection. For girls, it ranged from his sexy, feminine designs — some with an overlay of lace or pleated fabrics — through to more structured pieces like the corset dress and pants. The main colours were lemon, salmon, black and red with a splash of metallic. For guys, there were his petrol pump shirts and his Si Fi jump suits in bright orange. His soft casual sports jackets and shorts in beige may also be a sign of what guys will be wearing this summer. My favourite piece though was the hot chili sequin t-shirt in black for that original and fun ‘look at me’ moment.
In recent years Bangkok has built amazing shopping centres to cater to every fashionista’s whims at breakneck speed. Top of the list is Siam Square where you must visit MBK centre, Siam Paragon and Central World to name a few. Shoe trends in Thailand at the moment vary depending on what your looking for, the whole ‘80s revival is huge with patent, bright coloured pumps. For those who like their feet to sparkle, why not try the new Birkenstock glitter collection in a range of dazzling colours. But for those girls who want a shoe with a difference get hold of the gorgeous open toe butterfly shoe by World Wide Work. All of these shoes are available at the Platinum Mall on Petchuburi Rd.

HAVE YOUR SAY
Brooklyn based illustrator Autumn Whitehurst is a Lost At E Minor favourite. She recently told the Web Esteem website about her interest in capturing human figures: ‘I have to use a photo reference to comprehend how light falls on a three dimensional form but the figures in the illustration rarely look anything like the photographs because myself and my friends are not such lean sleek glowing forms. It’s one of the biggest challenges but is also really enjoyable and is probably the bit that I have to get most creative with. I plan to completely abandon photo references for the work in which there is no rendering at all, and it’ll probably result in something a bit wild’.

Given the amount of talent he has, it’s a mystery why German producer Pantha Du Prince not received more attention than he has. His minimal tech soundscapes are surprisingly melodic and moody, as reflected on his epic track, Asha, as good a starting point to the music of this German electro whiz as any.

Creative advertising packaging
Despite the intentions of many, it’s not so often that advertising — as an industry — truly thinks outside the box. Yet, when executed well, clever eye-catching advertising actually works. It does. As these examples will attest to. Read more
Scanners’ new single Salvation
I love this track by London based rock group, Scanners, which is off their latest album, Submarine. Having toured with acts such as The Horrors, The Wedding Present, The Charlatans, Electric Six, and Juliette & The Licks, Scanners could well blow up in 2010. Figuratively speaking, not literally. No, that wouldn’t be fun.

Forget battery powered vehicles. Cars made from ice are the future of transportation: no pollution, no honking horns, no painful rap music blasting out of souped up stereos. And if they melt, they melt. You just swim the rest of the way down the slipstream.
