Argentinean designer Guillermo Jones graduated from the University of Buenos Aires with an interest in exploring ‘different situations that develop in the mind, generating metaphors of the desires, the feelings, the emotions, the knowledge’. His photo essay – Reality Has Structure Of Fiction [two of which are displayed above] – looks at the idea that ‘days, hours, minutes are only cogwheels of a mechanism than us it is relaxing, imposing his chronology of the duty on us, and distorting our perception of the world and of the value of life’. Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Sparks’ album Kimono My House is a demented mix of hard rock, pop, glam, new wave, and baroque pop. Why this record never caught on in the States I’ll never know. The songs will get stuck in your head and prevent you from sleeping. Oh yeah, and the keyboard player has a nice mustache too, as evidenced by this track above — This Town Ain’t Big Enough.

I love this track by London based rock group, Scanners, which is off their latest album, Submarine. Having toured with acts such as The Horrors, The Wedding Present, The Charlatans, Electric Six, and Juliette & The Licks, Scanners could well blow up in 2010. Figuratively speaking, not literally. No, that wouldn’t be fun.
