Cikita Z

Some cute and cuddly illustrations by Italian artist, Cikita Z, who loves that her life can be just ‘pink or black, and the good thing is that usually I can choose between which colour lenses I view the world through. I try to translate events of everyday life into sparkling instantaneous freeze frames’, she says. ‘To perceive the magic in the ordinary – to emphasise fears with burning colours. I want to suspend the invocation and the surprise to keep them constantly alive; I am seeking for the innocent and the amazing, for my own delight and secret holiness’. [see also Vicki Scott]

Nice doodle. That's a photorealistic line drawing of a cat riding a bicycle, right? You should sign up for our free email newsletter.

Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend

Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

Iconic artwork recreated using Barbie Dolls

I love the brashness of this ongoing series, Poupée Barbie, by French artist Jocelyn Grivaud, created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the doll that (most) every girl grew up with. Grivaud has pulled stills from iconic movies, paintings and photos, casting Barbie as the star in a statement about her seemingly timeless relevance. Read more

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And while a good number of us will habitually throw out good-for-nothing junk mail, artist Sandhi Schimmell Gold uses it to create vibrant portrait mosaics.

They say a magician is only as good as his wand. Well, a ventriloquist is only as good as his, or her, dummy. And in these cases, the dummies are quite probably the creepiest damn things we’ve seen in a long, long time. Read more

Ian Brown has never been a man to look back. Formerly the lead singer of the Stones Roses – an eclectically talented group that never quite reached full potential – he has since carved out a successful solo career, moving well beyond the poppy melodrama of Fools Gold and into a more left-field sonic terrain. I love the new range of plaid collared shirts from the aptly named Just Another Cheap Shirt,. When I walked into their showroom in Manhattan a few weeks back, my eyes nearly popped out of head at the sight of so many colours across so many shirts across so much space. It’s a vibrant, resilient, and timeless collection — edgy street wear meets classic European sophistication. Read more
