Come wander with me

What is it about mangoes? Seriously. Why do so many people obsess over them? You hear all sorts of stories about the lengths some will go to in order to buy the first box of the season. Yet really, in the cold hard light of the day, they taste about as exciting as a kilo of chokos and have the textural consistency of a handful of sand. And have you noticed how it’s impossible to eat the damn things without looking like an extra from a Ron Jeremy flick. Yes, apples, peaches, and plums may stay, but please – for the sake of humanity, and whatever tiny fragments are left of my sanity – let mango. Gettit?! Let man-go. Let … ah, forget it. Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV

The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.

Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend

Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

I like my local mangoes. Extremely sweet and juicy. Don’t pick the over-riped ones and you should also taste mangoes which originate from tropical countries, they taste much better. Give mangoes another chance. ;)

Hmmm … I’m tempted Gary. But I’ve never had a good mango experience. Now as for passionfruits, well that’s another story altogether.

Nat said | 18 December, 2006

Yes! I totally concur with Gary! Come on Zolton, don’t diss the mango. That’s totally like, un-Australian of you. Or something. Three cheers for mangoes!

well I would give my kingdom – or my collection of rufus wainwright albums (whichever comes cheaper) — for a delightfully ripe kiwfruit right now. that’s right mango lovers, you heard me correctly. a kiwi fruit, firm and wholesome.

Ah but is’nt it interesting how those who seem to dislike the mango are all such cynical, miserable bastards. come on at leat give it a blast with some rum and ice. The mango may bring some joy.

much love

I reckon you come close to un australian thoughts there mate, come on , mango are the best, you obviously somehow have been deprived, I remember many a hot summer days when I was a grommet, sitting in the pool with my girl, both eating a mango, together, the same mango, at the same time, yum, messy, but yummy, and isn’t sex messy too ? so what you saying ? Plus there are many ways of eating a mango without the mess, just means you’ll miss out sucking , nibbling and schlurping on the pit.
Fuck it, i’m gonna have one now before going for a surf. T o Gary, i was in Dubai, where I tried a mango from India, and it was incredible as they were so soft and sweet, but they also tasted as if they had lime juice squeezed over it, amazing, never had one like that since

Zolton I am really surprised ! I would have thought you would think many things over-rated, but not the mango… Have you never eaten a perfect mango? Where in hell did you get a mango with a sandy texture? And comparing them to chokoes? And Ron Jeremy flicks?

Zolton please go get yourself a firm but ripe mango from your local…
slice it thrice…
take the outer 2… fleshy side up…
criss cross with your knife…
one little square by one little square – no mess and no sexy mouth…

Says Van She bassist and vocalist Matt Van Schie about the Bush Tetras track — Too Many Creeps — from 1982: ‘I LOOOVE this tune. It opens with a perfect snare roll, and then the counter bass and guitar rhythms make it so cool. The lyrics are even more valid today. They’re one of my favourite bands of all time, and so many people try to do what they did for real. What a time! I wish I was born back then in New York, hanging out with these kids. Ahhhh!!’

Oh man! Now I’ve seen it all. An entire blog dedicated to cupcakes, those perfect little bundles of sweet, sweet goodness. Hell, my mouth is watering just looking at them. What will they think of next? A blog about pretzels? Ha! Oh, wait a minute. Damn!

Last week when the 2008 ARIA nominations were released, I was so happy to see the recognition of Melbourne’s Eddy Current Suppression Ring. Their album Primary Colours is pure, unadulterated Aussie rock, standing out from the numerous electro releases we’ve had this year. The band manages to capture that wonderful pub-vibe without any pretension or tragic nostalgia. Primary Colours speaks to people who still seek an existence that is all about wearing ripped jeans, loitering and punching people in the face … not in a violent way, but because your fist flailed in that direction while you were thrashing around front of stage.

The line, which has a starting price at around fifteen dollars, drops April 19, just in time for Earth Day.
