Having graduated from the University of Brighton with a BA Hons in Illustration, Vicki Scott has completed designs for Paperchase as well as exhibiting at events such as the Affordable Arts Fair in Battersea and being featured in The Times. Of her work she says: ‘It is fashion based, often with a 1920′s feel, although influences range from food, animals, humour, found images and often just pure fantasy. All my pieces have a handmade aesthetic by using a variety of materials including coloured card, paint and fabric. To maintain a certain ambiguity over the characters identities, I often represents them as silhouettes. I like my work to remain uplifting and, although it sounds cheesy, I like the idea that my picture has brightened up someone’s day’. [see also Debbie Hill]

Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV
The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

Having originally sprung from the Shaky Isles (otherwise known as New Zealand), I can appreciate the humour in the New Zealand cartoon series, Bro Town, the first homegrown animated series to screen during local prime time. It’s simply brilliant, a real play on the ‘thuck’ accent and small town ways of our Kiwi brethren.
With the streets of New York already covered in a thin layer of ice after a heavy snowstorm yesterday, it’s interesting to see how other cold winter cities deal with this ubiquitous companion. At the annual Ice and Snow Festival, in Haban, China, they get kinda creative with it: building an entire city out of ice and then lighting it up like an extra frosty, colourful Christmas tree. Unlike a lot of other web comic artists, the guys at Team Society League can actually draw well. They’re also freaking hilarious. Seriously, can you top pulling God’s finger?
I’ve yet to find out what they put in the water in Germany that generates such a consistently rich stream of good electronica. Carrying the torch at the moment is Hendrik Weber, aka Pantha du Prince, whose early 2007 release, This Bliss, landed on my doormat with a deep bass-kick and hasn’t left my iPod since. Read more
