Katy Horan was born and raised in Houston, Texas. After living in Los Angeles then Boston, she ended up in Providence, Rhode Island where she studied Illustration at The Rhode Island School of Design. She now lives in Brooklyn, New York and creates paintings inspired by folktales, old-timey music, spirit animals and nostalgia … amongst other things. She has exhibited all over America and her work has been featured in publications such as Plan B, Yeti and Faesthetic. When not painting or obsessively checking her email, she likes to drink herbal tea and explore Booklyn on her bike. [see also James Jean]

Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV
The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

And as if that wasn’t enough, they’ve now teamed up with Life Magazine, what was the cornerstone of photojournalism for the Twentieth Century, to digitize 95 per cent of their image bank that never saw the light of day. I almost forgot — metal is really about being drunk, pissed, offensive, and satanic. I have Bestial Mockery to thank for this. Their no-frills black thrash is barebones and snarling without being too dead-pan serious. These guys from Sweden are clearly having a blast worshiping the Dark One in the tradition of old-school bands like Venom, early Bathory, and Sodom. Nothing too original here, but it’s fun as hell.
This recent photo series by Joshua Scott combines gang sign stacking with cutting edge jewelry brands, nOir and Bijules. Who needs brass knuckles when you’ve got this much swag on your fists. Stack signs and represent your set with metal and mesh. Read more
