Young Sydney artist, Fleur Childs, was ‘staying at Arugam Bay, a remote beach community on the east coast of Sri Lanka, when the Indian Ocean tsunami struck. With the works that make up Boxing Day, Childs relives and reimagines her experience of riding the wave that killed over 200,000 people‘. Childs is a graduate of the College of Fine Arts. Her exhibition, Boxing Day, is on at Sydney’s Blank Space Gallery between October 26 and November 1. [see also Lyndel Yeo]

Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

I love the brashness of this ongoing series, Poupée Barbie, by French artist Jocelyn Grivaud, created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the doll that (most) every girl grew up with. Grivaud has pulled stills from iconic movies, paintings and photos, casting Barbie as the star in a statement about her seemingly timeless relevance. Read more

Swedish designer Paula Hagerskans has a cool masculine-edge to her female fashion lines. But it’s her attention to detail that really blows my mind. Her perfectly tailored jackets, along with her flat dress shoes, make dressing up fun, comfortable and classy.
