Ryan McGinness

New York-based artist Ryan McGinness has had his work featured across a variety of mediums including installations, skateboard decks, and books – most notably 1999’s Flatness is God. The Danziger Projects website suggests that his art ‘makes strong social commentary on iconography, language, and historical and contemporary symbolism. It consists of an amalgam of icons and symbols in which originals do not exist. Instead, his graphic drawings and personal iconography are replicated, recontextualized, and materialized infinitely’. Josh Pogue’s style reminds me of old DIY punk and metal demo covers, but he takes things to a different level with his intricately patterned, fantastical scenes that look like pages out of a demented storybook. Read more

Swedish designer Paula Hagerskans has a cool masculine-edge to her female fashion lines. But it’s her attention to detail that really blows my mind. Her perfectly tailored jackets, along with her flat dress shoes, make dressing up fun, comfortable and classy. When asked what she keeps in mind while designing, Hagerskans responds, ‘Bohemic music lovers, humor, graphic design and the female body’.

I’m enjoying reading the insight and witticisms of the Indie Breakfast Club blog, which casts a wide net over entrepreneurship and what it means to be one and still have a conscience.

Oh man, my eyeballs feel like they’re dropping out of my head. This clip is pyschedelic in a way that platform shoes and polyester shoes could never be. The Faint are the shizz, and that’s the truth.

I interviewed the mysterious Suitman some time ago for the Australian magazine, Riot. Even then it was clear that, with his immaculately pressed suit and crisp white shirts, he was an icon – both stylistically and conceptually. So it’s no surprise to hear about his latest adventure, The New Grand Tour, ‘an episodic art project featuring revolving guest artists with hyphenated cultural and geographical backgrounds. The Swimmers

I live the upbeat, feel good tempo of the new single — A Hundred Hearts — from Philly group, The Swimmers. Off their latest album, People Are Soft, this song is a strangely fitting anthem for the blustery day outside.
