John Wischhusen
UK designer John Wischhusen’s work is obsessed with the process of ‘mechanical movement’. As the Hidden Art website notes: ‘His designs are a mixture of domestic product and fine art automata. The work is designed as kinetic sculpture for domestic environments. He designs living, breathing creatures from inanimate manmade materials’. These two pieces reflect his commitment to cutting edge yet functional design. The Bloat Clock is elegant and commendably original, while the EL Flutter is an ‘electro luminescent butterfly nightlight that provides a soft diffused glow from its wings. It uses safe and robust electro luminescent technology and can easily be hung on the wall or ceiling’. [see also Laurent Massaloux]

Cool furniture. I really like the hibiscus-inspired wall clock.

yeah – works for me too. simple and elegant – finding function from nature, which I love.

I love how these pieces have moved beyond mere aesthetics to be justifiably functional… not only do they look cool on the wall, the’re useful too.
