My buddy Emily Eibel’s a stitcher, so it’s no surprise she stumbled across the beautiful work of Takashi Iwasaki and felt the need to shout out about it across the hilltops. She’s right. Iwasaki creates poppy, purely abstract images with a dollop of clear Murakami influence. I love them. Iwasaki applies his designs with everything from traditional paint to coloured pencils, and most notably, stitching. Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV
The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

Tiffany Bozic does amazing portraits of very subtly anthropomorphized animals inhabiting very subtly surreal landscapes. Neat.
Robert Montgomery is a London-based artist, or maybe a poet, who hijacks billboards, empty ad spaces on the streets and backlit metro lights with his words of wisdoms. Instead of illustrations, he uses typography to get his message across, which is pretty cool because people actually would stop and read. Read more

Setting Sun’s cover of Tom Petty’s You Got Lucky was recently released as part of Buffet Libre DJ’s compilation CD, Rewind 2. Says frontman, Gary Levitt, of their version on the song: ‘We got back from our European tour on Christmas Eve with a December 27th deadline for the track looming. It was finally started on December 26th and then sent off completed the next day. It was a great exercise in having to let some things go. That’s twenty-four hours out the door complete, old school style. That’s how records used to be made. They may be incredibly eccentric, but these ten inch platforms are physical proof that it is actually possible to create somewhat aesthetically pleasing heels out of elephant faeces. UK-based artist INSA designed the shoes as part of a recent art exhibit at Tate Britain which features the individual work of various artists responding to Chris Ofili’s controversial The Holy Mary elephant dung painting made fifteen years ago.
