Italian art director Daniele Lago is responsible for designing all of the innovative and exceptionally styled products in the current Lago collection. Before his arrival, the company had a long history of traditional wooden workmanship and under Daniele’s guidance Lago began moving to a more contemporary aesthetic. ‘An innate predisposition for research, innovation, change, a formal rigour leaving no space for decoration as an end in itself, an intellectual honesty in studying new products created to resolve the everyday needs of home living in an essential manner, these are the talents that distinguish the work of Daniele Lago’. I’ve been living in Greenpoint Brooklyn for a couple of years now and one of the highlights is brunch on the weekends. After living in Crown Heights for seven years, where your only choices are Tom’s Diner or Popeye’s Fried Chicken, it’s an amazing change of pace. Brooklyn Label is a classic, old Brooklyn style restaurant with a great menu and when you’re a regular, you get seated before the masses. It’s definitely worth the trip to Greenpoint. But beware of the long waits at around 1pm when the hipsters wake up.
Alfred Hitchcock’s icy heroines inspired Yeojin Bae’s Autumn Winter 09 collection. Its 40s noir meets modern day muse with seductive tailoring and asymmetric style. Yeojin Bae’s signature has become ultra-feminine shapes contrasted with coveted tailored separates Unravelled shapes are expertly tailored. Raw edge silk blouses have dipping necklines and are worn boxy and loose. Wool Angora overcoats feature a dramatic bias cut hem and buckled flare sleeve in black or herringbone. Her use of only natural light, and her languid, straight-forward framing result in intimate, grainy, and candid-feeling pictures that feel like they’ve come out of a forgotten drawer somewhere.
