Sumakhi giveaway

We love Australian girlswear label, Sumakhi, which is the creation of designer Jayne Leslie who previously worked for hot local labels, Sass & Bide and Alice McCall. Launched in 2005, Sumakhi follows Leslie’s vision of fashion as being ‘a constantly changing creature, one that begs for continual updating. Designing is a way to express my emotions and make my mark on the world. I love to know that women are wearing my clothes and feeling sexy and confident’. Each Sumakhi range follows the changes in the seasons. Apparently Tilli from this year’s Big Brother even wore the Sumakhi Button Cami in crimson on one of the Friday Night Live shows. Ah, infiltrating reality TV. That’s what we like to see! We have three Sumakhi dresses to give away to random Lost At E Minor subscribers who either leave a message under this post with their ultimate fashion/art collaboration that hasn’t happened yet but better happen soon or email this post onto at least six of their friends. Winners will be announced on September 6.

Special one day advertising rates for Lost At E Minor. Reach our audience at a fraction of the usual price. More details here.

Crimea X’s Secret Playlist

Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. We asked them about their favourite music and they started with The Smiths song, Ask [listen below] ‘I saw them playing live on Italian TV. It was during the 80s when I was extremely young, and I’ve never stopped listening to this song’. Read the rest of Crimea X’s Secret Playlist.

Hot hot hot! Love the peachy number. Well I understand the perils of fashion collaboration as I once dabbled in accessory design with a good friend who would probably compete with me for the most evil facial expression should we ever cross paths again. Nowadays I simply make nice stuff for myself and give kudos to the hard workin’ sassy chicks like Leslie who have managed to get their designs on bodies. Beautiful!

speaking of big brother, i saw david at the airport yesterday. i did a double take, and when i saw the pastel pink and pony tail i realised who i was looking at. embarresing that i was star struck by the BB.

as for fashion making love to art;

give egon schiele a polaroid and kate moss, and i can only begin to imagine what magic would happen.

zolton, big apologies for not making the party the other night, i ended up in emergency at RPA instead :( wearing a backless gown not quite a design you can work with. Still managed to turn it into a dress a got a few ohh aah comments from the nurses. ha ha xxx

gorgeously simple and elegant dresses!!
I love the fabrics – so subtle & feminine!
They look so comfortable & cool for a hot summers day!
Very nice!

Aboslutely gorgeous dresses! Sumakhi have captured the essence of spring and hot summer days!

Not a fashion collaboration but definitely an art/music one (so am hoping this counts!). I’d love to see Miss Erikah Badu collaborate with D’Angelo and bring their soulful sounds to our sunny shores – ideally at a big sunny outdoor festival like Goodvibes!!

=)

joanna said | 29 August, 2006

Ooohh love the femininity of these designs- esp the cream dress! Very ethereal with a modern twist!! And the fact that Jayne has worked with the likes of Alice Mccall and the babes from Sass&Bide says it all!!

kiah said | 30 August, 2006

no-bra dresses are the funnest & the most fun in these will be had on the beach with gin ooze and super beat sound under the moon!! and then michel gondry will make a very exciting and throbbing video clip of everyone doing tableaux in these hot frocks and the clothes will live forevermore….this will be the best unrealised collaboration ever.

jeebs said | 31 August, 2006

how about damian hirst doing see-through plastic dresses full of formaldehyde… controversial and in bad taste!

Fernanda said | 31 August, 2006

A series of dresses illustrated with life-size, hand-drawn fashion figures, so that’s a figure inside of a figure…. I really want one of these dresses; I loved teh Sumakhi summer collection!

cat said | 31 August, 2006

gorgeous dresses. i work at a high end retail store and season after season it’s the same old blah. i can’t wait to see these guys sold in the states. as for my ultimate fashion/art collaboration, maybe banksy + tsubi. jeans are already so jacked up with distressing and bleaching and embroidery and *gag* sequins that a little bit of graffiti can only help.

mylissa said | 31 August, 2006

beautiful and not in the US,not that I know of.I could be the first..I would then have Charlotte Gainsbourg wear one, duck tape her to the wall of my gallery and blast Serge..not that is art,Serge, Charlotte, and Sumakhi, taped onto the walls..I passed thsi on to 10 of my friends, always the extra mile.

způsob said | 31 August, 2006

If I don’t get one of these dresses I will have to keep sporting the new “Contempo” Range form Kmart all summer;-(

Mel said | 31 August, 2006

as for collabs.. I’d like to see Akira and Bill Henson collab!! I’m thinking black silks in different textures and a mysterious catalogue of pics to go with all the lovely clothes!!!!

jojo said | 31 August, 2006

i would like to see vulgar grad (the band) wearing the fashions of jean-paul gaultier whilst dining on the foods of ferran adriaa and sipping on vintage billiecart salmon brut rose…HEAVEN!

Wisey said | 31 August, 2006

Oh my god. I so want one of these dresses. The fact of the matter is I’d buy one anyway, but free shtuff always feels a billion times better (think of the shit movie, but when free, sometimes seems ok).
I reckon the best art/fashion collaboration would have to be Nike Savvas (think balls installation at this years bienale) combined with some Josh Goot. I love the sporty element of both, but the colour v monotonal juxtaposition would be hot!

C-line said | 31 August, 2006

I think Scott Wade from dirty car art gallery should imprint one of these stunning dresses onto Mona Lisa’s torso on the back of a Mini. Sprinkled with some extra dust would make Mona look like she had fake tan on and would contrast amazingly well with that white little number from Sumakhi…

love the dress on the right! feminine yet still unique.

fashion/art collaboration…

I would take the beautiful eccentric designs of Florence Broadhurst and mix with the modern day label Tsubi known for their controversial catwalk shows! all over an all aussie collaboration that is bold and shocking, whilst still leading todays trends.

barney_b said | 31 August, 2006

I’m starting to feel summer arrive- how about some swim/designer collections?
Some Bernhard Willhem print full pieces? How about Geoff McFetridge designed bikinis and perhaps a boardshort for the body surfer? What about some of Matthew Williamson’s colourful prints and beading on a bikini? I wear glasses so how about some preppy inspired swimwear by Lacoste? The collaborations are endless-but i’ll leave the summer dresses to sumakhi.

ally said | 31 August, 2006

ahhh, so sweet!

i’d love to see a range dreamed up by Marcel Dzama. Or something by Yayoi Kusama….

katie said | 31 August, 2006

I want a bolshy (if a little wrong) collaboration – Prince, the Beastie Boys, M.I.A., Tina Turner, and George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic should create magical music together. And then Mark Ronson can do a remix. And then twenty-five years later, some boy-band can cover it – using only synthesizers, maracas and interpretative dance.

anne said | 31 August, 2006

I have been a big fan of Sumakhi, especially their knits which are generally pretty comfy and stylish.

The pastel coloured dresses featured here definitely take me down memory lane to my childhood and the dresses I used to wear then.

I like the simplistic nature of these dresses, they seem easy to slip on and off without fussy clasps and looking very lighweight – which is just the perfect mix to get through the hot Aussie summers.

My ultimate collaboration would be Marc Jacobs with Sonia Rykiel. They are my fave designers and I love their experimentation with bright colours and prints which I find is usually lacking in other designers who generally stick to the neutral tones or black and whites. More colour I say!

i’d like to see an apc.fr dress re-imagined musically by balkan beat box. traditional music like apc’s traditional clothing, but given a funky, swishy twist that just makes you want to dance. that sumakhi dress top left just makes me think of going out on a warm night and dancing until the wee hours.

Ute said | 1 September, 2006

Love those dresses. So fragile yet elegant.

A collaboration I would love to see is Schamburg/Alvisse furniture and generally awesome designs (check their website schamburgalvisse.com.au) together with Boards of Canada. Dreamy plus creatively analytic. I wonder what could spring from those minds when brought together.

Nicole said | 1 September, 2006

Tsubi and Jeremy Scott are two designers collaborating v soon, and after JS’s Autumn 2006 collection – wearable fast food and icecream sundaes on skinny models.. .mwhahahah, you gotta know its gonna be pretty bent. when a surface aesthetic is nonsense its kind of refreshing, no? http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshows/2006/fall/main/newyork/womenrunway/jeremyscott/#
maybe Nike andTraci Emin – The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe!

on another level, haven’t we seen enough music collabs, street artist collabs, tech collabs and so forth, and they all get a bit serious… so i’d prefer to see industrial designers work with fashion designers, like Yves Behar and his fusepoint mentality of rethinking an object with some sort of wearability… and using a fashion designer with a similar bent on making clothes almost into objects.. so Yves Behar with some crazy cat like Hussein Chalayan. yeah, i’d try to wear that! … and i’d defo wear sumakhi

The most important collaboration of all…Nature imitating art imitating nature.

N.B. (Art being the dress, nature being me [hopefully] wearing the dress this spring.

Love these cute summer dresses, looking at them makes me want to skip through the rainforest up at Byron along with butterflies and sucking on a calipo. After having just smoked a fat spliff.
Mmmm, a fashion/art collaboration Id like to see, superhero outfits, batman and catwomen suits mixed with grecian designs and lots of white lace and pearls..

Improv Everywhere strikes again with a spontaneous musical in a Los Angeles mall. Wireless microphones hooked up to the mall’s PA system ensured the feeding masses didn’t slip into Cinnabon-induced comas until after the show was over.
