Our web DNA
The guys at Baekdal have an interesting way of representing a website’s structure – as human DNA. The ‘DNA’ of the Lost At E Minor website is shown above. The more important the HTML tags, the brighter the lines. And as they say: ‘A site that focuses on text is one where the DNA patterns are large but contain a lot of empty spaces between the lines (empty space is individual words)’. I’m not really sure what this all means. But it looks kinda cool.

Around the corner is Sydney’s busiest shopping strip, the Pitt Street Mall. And across the road is the iconic Hyde Park. Surry Hills, Kings Cross and Darling Harbour are not far from the Park8. We stayed in a 1 bedroom loft apartment, which includes a wonderfully large spa bath and rainshower. Read more

Like It, Stamp It! This new, Instagram-style Iphone app allows you to give a ‘stamp of approval’ to the things you like and share it instantly. In doing so, it avoids the confusion you can experience with 1 to 5 star ratings, which can sometimes be hard to figure out. Brilliant!
Sparks’ album Kimono My House is a demented mix of hard rock, pop, glam, new wave, and baroque pop. Why this record never caught on in the States I’ll never know. The songs will get stuck in your head and prevent you from sleeping. Oh yeah, and the keyboard player has a nice mustache too, as evidenced by this track above — This Town Ain’t Big Enough.

Bringing statistics to life is not particularly easy, but this website does so with a creative brilliance. Using interactive animation and videos, you can look at a wide ranging set of sustainable global development data as the numbers change across space and and time. It promotes a statistically-founded world view, and somehow makes that fun.
Where to start with Z-Trip? Shepard Fairey propped him on this site a few weeks back, but let’s face it: the guy is worth a double post. He’s the king of the mash-up, a dance floor master, and the humblest guy you’ll meet. If you haven’t heard of him (unlikely), then go to his website right now and download his free mixes. He deejayed a show for us in 2000, right when his breakout CD, Uneasy Listening, dropped and I was floored. Who has the audacity to mix a Pat Benatar beat with Public Enemy vocals? This guy.
