Under the pines
So I’m moving across to New York next week to immerse myself in the creative energy of a city which has always fascinated and intrigued me since I was young enough to know better. I’ll be based there until January next year and would love to meet up with artists, photographers, and musicians who have some time to show me the hidden secrets of the city. I’m sure there are many. From my limited experience in New York it seems like a giant playground for the creative and intrepid alike; a vast urban monolith where anything and everything seems possible. Although steeped in tradition, the city stands as a symbol of progression – both in thought and in construction. And it’s those that break away from the rigidity of conformity that make New York such an intriguing and exciting hub of creative expression. It’ll be an exciting few months. Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV
The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

NASA has released some pretty amazing audio recordings of sounds from the moons of Saturn. The weirdest thing about them is that they actually sound like Theremin warbles and echoey whooshy sounds from ‘50s movies about space.

Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.

Hi Zolton,
A buddy passed this on to me.
His name is Adam Larkin and says that yr Pa was a good pal of his Pa’s; Tom Larkin.
I’m a photographer and have recently made the big step from NZ to NY.
