So I’ve come to the rather disheartening conclusion that Dolly Parton — that iconic symbol for all things, erm, busty — is a genius. That’s right. A bonafide member of a club which counts Steven Hawkins, Paul McCartney and Ali G as directors. How else can you account for the sublime turn of phrase in her hit single ’9 to 5′? For the creation of Dollyworld and all the goodness that it harboured? For the inherent perkiness that seems to seep from every glistening pore of her airbrushed veneer? Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

Ahh… I must agree with your observations of Dolly Parton. But her genius is endless. I have always been amazed by her ability to play a guitar with fingernails that are six inches long. And I have seen her do it on TV. Now that is skill. I’ll also never forget the first Dolly Parton tape (yes tape) my mum bought when I was a kid. ‘Dolly Parton’s Greatest Hits’. And then my mum’s fury when my brother graffitied the cover with liquid paper changing the H to a T.

Sparks’ album Kimono My House is a demented mix of hard rock, pop, glam, new wave, and baroque pop. Why this record never caught on in the States I’ll never know. The songs will get stuck in your head and prevent you from sleeping. Oh yeah, and the keyboard player has a nice mustache too, as evidenced by this track above — This Town Ain’t Big Enough.

Given the amount of talent he has, it’s a mystery why German producer Pantha Du Prince not received more attention than he has. His minimal tech soundscapes are surprisingly melodic and moody, as reflected on his epic track, Asha, as good a starting point to the music of this German electro whiz as any.
Perhaps the reason men are not known for their shoe fetishes is because when it comes to mens shoes in general, there are really only two must have varieties: vintage street wear and sartorialist leather. Read more
